My firewood hoarding stash is, if you will excuse the expression, small potatoes compared to what I’ve seen on this forum. In addition to cordwood I’ve got about six of these stacks, this one showing the red Maple side, behind it are white oak, all 4 x 6 x 3‘. Hopefully half of these will end up jointed, planed and squared up for shop projects. The reject rate is quite high, especially for the 2 x 6 cross boards. If I have to burn them I just lop in half and stack. Moisture is 3-5%. I just ordered the x27 maul based on reviews here, as well as some chaps. I’m guessing in a while that I ll feel like an idiot for never having worn them before.
Well those will make good firewood. Don't worry about small potatoes. If you burn wood, that is good, no matter how much you burn.
Looks good. It’s nice to have lumber on hand. I burned 3 of these bins of cutoffs last year. Helped w keeping me on the 3 year plan by allowing me to burn less hardwood and keeping those splits on the racks.
I’m thinking you’ll like the x27. I was busting some big rounds the other day with the bigger maul they sell but once I got them in half, I grabbed the x27 to piece them up. I like the long handle. A little bit of hoarding done often gets the job done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks bud. I had a great source for all that free pallet wood, now dried up I believe. Lotsa little batches do get it done for me.
You sure do have a great allotment of it, hopefully you can find another. The sources around here are often heavy metal businesses like piping or rails etc...I get some from a pipe place but depending on what will be next...?? But I aim to get more of my (giant) pallets 5 at a time... “cue Johnny Cash “One piece at a time”...
Nice hoard and good size. I mostly get slat boards and pallet top frames, but mixed in makes the splits last longer. Our little stash.
No sir. Most of the thick boards on the left side get knocked loose in use and tossed aside. Sometimes when a whole pallet is tossed, I can take a thick board and pop the others loose. The thin boards on the right come from frames like these. These are pine, the other frames had 4 boards, usually oak or hickory.
Yes sir, 44-48" long. Still have dad's woodshop and equipment. That's a 14" 3 pH DeWalt radial arm saw. We have a 10" cabinet table saw for ripping. Usually go down there on cold rainy days for that.
It sounds like you have a system. Me, I do it very gently like a watchmaker, with an 8 pound sledge and a piece of 4” thick laminated plywood to cushion some of the shock in an effort to save the two by sixes, which are buried with five or 6 4-inch nails.
That's cool! I thought I was the only one. Axe wood was 60% of my heating last year. Will be again this year. I hauled two loads a month ago. Stocked probably til Christmas.
LOL same here on all accounts! I loaded up Aug and Sept while the competition for the discarded targets was low. I cut them into 1/3rds w a table saw or circular saw then stack em on the porch.
