Been working on completing my collection of 88 cc Homelite saws. I bought a 540 new in 1991 and have been on the lookout for an 8800. Found one last year with a bad top end and got a demo version (DM 88) earlier this year. A member was kind enough to sell me his John Deere version (CS 550) Saturday.

I found two 8800's for sale last November (one fueled and started but never run in wood). I was finally able to make a deal on them last week and they arrived today.

Here is part of the lineup (including the 540 I had at the GTG).

These saws are very uncommon/ rare. To see a 540, 8800, and a JD550CS in the same picture? I don't think I ever have! This is my favorite part of your collection Gary, beautiful saws. This series will always hold a special place in my heart! Sad to see the JD go, but it was time... I am down to 27 (or 28 lol) saws now, shooting seems to be taking up the majority of my interest in the free time nowadays...

Jeff, thanks for allowing me to add it to my collection. I have been lusting after it since you first told me about it a couple of years ago. I also own the 8800 version of the demo saw (in a box), only need the 540 version to round out the collection.

I was thinking that Carbine was the one who brought it? Then to read later on that he did, confirms it

Glad ya'll could work out a deal. That's an awesome collection you have Gary :)

Deere has never made their own saw. They have re-badged Remingtons, Homelites, Echos, and most recently Efco saws.

John Deere needed a line of saws to sell but apparently didn't want to get into manufacturing them and assume those costs along with R&D, etc. Over the years they bought from such manufacturers as Remington, Echo, Homelite and Efco.

My dad has on old Homie 360 with a horizontal cylinder. It has cut 100's of cord of wood, has diesel-like compression, and runs like a wild animal.
