Dead Standing Red Oak. Bark all gone. This will be for ‘22-‘23. Rolled them in, Kicked them out. 2 loads in the trailer. Traveled 50 grand total miles. She was topped by a tree crew a few weeks ago. And today I came in for the bottom 30 feet.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Great Score!

Curious as to the moisture content once split. We find that when we CSS barkless D S R O and it's ready to burn almost immediately.

Those are some nice looking rounds. Doesn't look like much punk on the outer edge either.

I cut a DSRO at my next door neighbor's today. Though the bark was still on it and it had at least 1 and a half inch ring of punk the center was good. I was curious what the moisture content was, so I split a round and checked it. This tree has been standing dead for at least 5 years'.

That's damp. That bark holds a lot of water. Curious what it will read in a week or two. The stuff we cut has been standing barkless for at least a few seasons.

not unusual as the moisture tends to wick up from the bottom .

Definitely on the “primo” end of the scale.

Very nice rounds. Very little sap wood. That will dry down quick. Great score.

I hate that, it’s like there’s a window where the woods not green and not dry where it is just ridiculously hard to split. That’s a sweet score!

Yeah I am curious as well as to the MC of the rounds.

Great score, it'll be great firewood when you plan on burning it.

That’s what I always find in the lower part of DSRO. Water squeezes out when splitting.

You should. They are very useful tools for woodburners.

    Nice looking score coreboy83
Around here DSRO and white oak will keep the bark and the sapwood gets punky for the most part. Looks like minimal sapwood in those rounds.
Moisture meter neat toy, er tool to have in the arsenal. Cheap enough too. Just got one last Winter. I was surprised on some of the results when i use it.

76210DDB-5444-4477-89DD-17E9C7F2C4B7.jpeg That’s some nice wood. Basically the type of stuff I’ve been burning for years. Only gets one season to dry. I’m improving tho. Getting ahead. Hoping this is the first year where I’ll actually be burning wood that’s considered dry.

First year I had a MM I found out how wet my wood really was. Took a trip out into the woods and found 5-6 standing dead oaks,,,,,smallish trees 6-9”. No bark, no punk. Had the MM with me. Get about 4’ off the ground and they were at 21-28%. Better than the stuff I had stacked.
Tossed the splitter next to the bulkhead and tossed em right down the cellar. Saved lots of work :)
