Took the dogs out for a run....with the rain and snow we got I now have three wet dogs. Stopped by the tree dump and came across some nice silver maple for shoulder season. More to be had but time to get them unloaded and get my other chores underway. Have a great day everyone!
Nice little haul this morning! Cut up to the right length and everything. Really muddy here too... I can relate to a dirty muddy dog lately. Were going to a couple stores this morning with my daughter and the dog...
Thanks. Have fun with your daughter. Unloaded my maple and stood back and realized that I might want to start processing the wood I have. The big pile on the left are from the elms I took down in my back yard. I got about half bucked but you can see the pile of unbucked lengths beyond that. Just short of the trailer is my small pile of gooder wood - mulberry and locust while the new maple rounds are stacked on the right. There is all a small stack of ash and elm ugliest that I work on. I get a box full and put them by the curb with a sign saying it's free for fire pits etc. The box is usually gone in a day. Like to pay forward a bit when I can.
Looks good schlot ... "I can relate to a dirty muddy dog lately. "... yup... 4 season "white" dog... white, brown, green, brown... repeat...
I really like that elm you have there! I just got a small red elm that was barkless and dead standing. Really great wood in my opinion. No mess, no rot and lots of BTU's... I never burned any locust yet though.... Nice of you to give some wood away also!
Agreed. Elm is a good wood. I've whittled away at some of the small stuff with the fiskars....but the big stuff will meet the hydraulic splitter up close.
Same here, Alaska "Breakup" ground is thawing, ice is melting , time to stay off the yard until the frost is out & it dries . I "Cringed" when I saw the wood laying directly on the ground Glad you are gonna start splitting & stacking soon. Plez stack it off the ground & Top cover the maple,
No worries. Once split it's on pallets. Its only been then since late fall. I'd probably won't top cover the maple since it will probably be next late winter shoulder wood. It gets lots of air and good sun. Can't imagine what an Alaskan break up looks like.
Lakes & rivers should be ice free soon. Some rivers have open water in the middle. Ice is looking dark colored & seeing liquid water around the edges of some of the lakes. This year has been better than most. Mild winter Saw 2 tundra swans, Spring is real close
Dave, Alaska weather took another nose dive toward the midwest and northeast. Next year it is your turn.
We know winter here. Cold & dark Some years colder than others & some years more snow than others But cold & dark are consistent 26° & heavy frost last night. Winter hasn't let go yet. But having over 14.5 hours of Daylight now is nice Still burning 24/7
Wow. I'm enjoying the HECK out of one blanket and a sheet in the b.r., and only the little propane fireplace kicking on once in awhile downstairs. We're in that two week period wherein I don't need allergy meds, and I'm loving life.
Looks like it's going to rain soon so the dogs requested an early morning run....which of course meant I HAD to stop by the tree dump. Added a wee but more silver maple to my collection.
Had a couple of big ones with storm damage in my woods. Finished one of them today. There's another one waiting for me when i get the time. I like soft maple. Pretty wood, dries quickly from what i've read. Seems to be a very common tree around here.
