http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/grd/4181876698.html Seems overpriced, but looks like new. If the scrench still in the bag and the file guide still on the card are any indication, that loose chain may just never have been adjusted. Pro has adjustable carb and oiler, correct? My sister wants to buy a saw for her fiancee. I don't want to tell her to spend $7-800 on a 362, but I don't want her to get one from a box store, either. Seems like everyone around here wants $300 for a possibly decent 029/290, but I've also seen decent 360/1/2 for $400-450. I'm gonna try to look at it tomorrow or Tuesday.
Consider what a new MS261 is going for, roughly $600+. The MS260Pro has the adjustable, gear-driven oil pump and the decomp valve. Carb is adjustable on either version. $400 might be a bit salty but that saw looks to be in excellent condition. $350 would be a decent deal IMO. Maybe pitch $325 out there, see what happens and settle on .......
Start at $200-$250 and go to $350 as MM stated, anywhere in that realm, would be a good price for a 260 Pro that clean. I've paid as low as $65 for an 026 and $125 for a MS 260Pro. but I scan CL all day, everyday Get them while they are Hot!
You are lucky that the saw is priced where it is because if it was a smoking deal it would be on its way to KY before you got around to calling. If you are serious about saw acquisition you never breathe a word about one until it is in your garage.
Unfortunately, tomorrow isn't gonna work out. I'll try for Thursday. It is priced higher than I have seen 026/260s go for around here. Hopefully that will keep it until then. Something tells me somebody bought a top of the line saw because they could, and didn't use it.
In September I sold a non-pro MS260 in much rougher condition on eBay for $255. That one strikes me as being priced optomistically, especially given that it's Craigslist so he only has access to a local market, but it's not a ridiculous price.
I couldn't get $350 for my absolutely mint 260 when I tried to sell it locally a few years ago......... but I did get $300 for an 029 Super.
I've never used a 290, but I see them advertised on CL all the time at high prices and think, 'Nah, that guy is crazy if he thinks he can get that for it.' Maybe I've been wrong a lot.
Set a 290 and a 260 out for sale in identical condition, same bar/chain setup, etc. for the same price. The 290 sells first, every freakin' time.
Yep. .. Farm Boss... Maybe we should just put a Farm Boss bar on them That name will fetch an extra $100 every time
It amazes me all the folks that think that is a pro saw , 290 that is. I have noticed now that stihl puts the 290,311,391 in a "farm ranch " class now? When I bought the 390 like 8 yrs ago it was just in the homeowner line? Which is what it is!
They consider a Ranch/Farm saw because of its size. Your looking at 50cc- cc saws, but still Clamshell design. They have been considered that for some time now? I don't think it was anytime recent. Been a long time. Tis the "Farm Boss" name. If you look under Husq, they have there Ranch/Farm Saws also. It's a well deserved class, and the saws don't do bad with a sharp chain and smaller bar (20" on a 290 or 455 wouldn't be my choice). I ran my 455 w/ a 16" (3/8") bar and chain. A 16" bar and the oiler cranked, it ran pretty good Still miss it on certain days.... Till I run a 70cc or 90cc saw!! Then I don't miss it so much
but the husky ranch/farm were not clamshells........ 570/359/353. Stihl stole the marketing idea, but forgot to ad the distinction.
It's a good value for the money. Easy sell. When I was paying the bills selling equipment, you could've stocked the MS180, MS250, and the MS290 and not lose a single customer. It's all about price points (consequently those saws sold for $200, $300, and $400 respectively) and marketing. Realistically, most people who walk through the door are going to be ecstatic walking out with an MS290/20" for $399. But it sure is fun when someone walks in talking your language.
I was thinking.g the flyer I had back in 04 had them right in there with the homeowner saws whick I know they are but still did not see the extra designation. Sorry for a hijack.
Sunday. Sunday is the day. Not a lot of interest, prolly because of the price. After looking at new saws yesterday, you don't get much for $400. I shoulda bought that 346XP this spring for $489
