I've burned that oak. It totally sucks. Just finish splitting it and send it my way. No need to thank me.
Hit the nail on the head...man this stuff splits easily too! A fiend of mine cleared a building site on his property, and has a sizable log pile with a bunch of this stuff, along with a huge cherry as well. Man, there's an unlimited wood supply out there!
I love the smell of Red Oak in the morning. Smells like victory (over the oil man). I don't recall ever smelling White Oak. I have some in the yard but I'll not be cutting them down.
I wish it smelled as good as it splits. I’ve heard of a guy that split red oak then stacked it in the basement to dry it out. Can you imaging smelling that stench every time you walk in the door.
I bet that smell would fill the House too. If I get within ten feet of bucked up rounds I can smell it. Kiln-dried stuff working with it in the shop, planing, sawing whatever, still smells up the shop
Call me crazy, but I love it. Of course, I'm also the weirdo that likes the smell of burning willow, so take my recommendations with a grain of salt.
good lord that would be terrible! I had three cords of freshly split oak, and it stunk up the neighborhood. I cant imagine that in the house.
Well, I'm in the minority here, I love the smell of Red Oak. White smells good too. Not sure I'd want to dry a bunch of fresh Red in an enclosed space though, that might be a bit strong.
Only have had experience with the kiln dried stuff, but I always loved the smell of red oak when cutting it up in the shop. Spanish cedar on the other hand... That stuff is the devil.
I brought a few splits inside because I love the smell of them...the missus does not share my appreciation of the aroma.
I'm on the "love it" side here...I have been into some that stunk, but usually both Red and White Oak have that "classic" lumber smell to me...
