Got out this morning to cut three standing dead oaks. Used the winch to pull them to my logging trail and buck them up.
    image.jpg
    Ready to head out.
    image.jpg
    Winching in the first tree.
    image.jpg Almost to the trail.
    image.jpg
All marked and ready to buck.
    image.jpg
    Bucked and starting to load.
    image.jpg
Back to the barn and splitting area.

As I was marking the smaller tree I found this about 3/4 of the way to the top. Never seen a tree split and then grow back together again.

Don't cut it! Never seen anything like it either. Nice haul btw. Should keep you warm for a good spell.
gboutdoors - do you find that dragging the logs puts dirt in the wood that dulls your saw?

I don't think it grew back together, it looks like it was bent over and split when it was small and the stood back up and healed. I bend plants over on purpose to do stuff like that and it makes the brach grow with more vigor. Something about triggering a response in the plant to open more nutrient carrying channels, sorry cannot remember the scientific terms. Still a very cool find!

Sweet wood. Might even be dry enough to burn right now.

As for the large Polish divining rods. I'll bet your not cutting that up.
I saw something similar but absolutely not as cool as yours last week. A much smaller scale. Just thought to myself that's weird. Then chopped it up. I'll look for it tomorrow. Should still be out there unless I cut it in half.

As for the Polish reference. The best woodsman and all around one of the nicest human beings I've ever met was Polish. And he knew how to use divining rods,,,,freaky. No harm intended. I couldn't think of a way to work blonde woman into the joke. That and she would kill me. Maybe Trump is right, this PC stuff is killing me.

Steve if you look at the ground there is very little that is not covered. I have not had any trouble with dirt other than the end of the tree as it digs in as it hits the ground.

And to every one that keep calling my TOOLS toys PLEASE stop! My wife might read this and figure out that I have enough toys I mean TOOLS.

you have land and equipment in Mass! Beautiful pictures. Very rare to see a tree grow back together on its own.

Very nice indeed. I'm wondering if there is a reason you use the winch rather than pulling them out with the tractor?

Our woods are VERY over grown so my logging/hunting trails are very winding and some times it is much easier to just winch them to the trail. If I have a clear enough trail I pull them out with the Kubota.
