new guy here jus thinking of doing a muffler mod on my 028. Wondering if anyone here has ?fabing and welding no problem just need to know what to do Thanks
WELCOME OLD IRON!!!! Sorry. Didn't mean to shout. Should have removed my hearing protection before I responded. No idea about your request but someone will be along shortly..
First off, welcome to the mix. Have you tried searching youtube for any videos yet? Sometimes a guy will have the same saw as you, and have a nice walk through video of what's what, and what to cut/remove/rip out. If that's not the case, stuckinthemuck is right, someone will be along shortly to (most likely) walk you through it. I posted some pics of my muffler, and it wasn't long until someone showed me what to do.
I had an 038 and believe they are very similar saws. The muffler mod I did was just to open up the baffle some more (unibit to add some holes) and I doubled the output exhuast size by adding some slanted fins (Dremel 3 or 4 slots and bend with needle nose pliers.). Be sure to pay attention where your new exhaust outlet will point. Take a look, with the 2 halves design it is easy enough to just take a peek. Post some pics and you will get some ideas.
I was going to say that muffler on the saw Duane just posted looked nothing like the one on the 032 I just picked up. Its at a slant
Just put a hole through it each place there is a hole in the shroud! Haha! It will scream and also smoke the wood on long cuts!
Duane after you removed the cover did you cut the baffles out of the muffler?,not the outer cover but the one inside with all the holes
Yes, and it works wonders for letting the saw breathe. (it is louder but I always wear PPE) You will need to give it more fuel through adjustment of the H screw, and it will really purr...
Old 40 yes it's a really nice mac 6 I will take a better picture and post it It came with factory case I bought it about a year ago
This is what I put on my 036. I think it would work on the 028 too. The deflector is a husky part that screws on vs. welded on. My 028 had gills in the area where the deflector was welded so it was sort of a salvage operation.
Bought this 028 wb new around 1983 I think , first saw I bought new,I just cut my own firewood and help others when needed,4 years ago replaced points with electronic and a year or so before that peplaced inpulse line , only things been done to it and still runs good
