A Co worker and I have been watching YouTube videos on smokers etc all week and asked if I wanted his Traeger smoker that he can't get to work. Of course I said I'll have a look at it so here it is at the shop. I see the fuse is blown, will check that everything is wired correctly.
Multimeter findings this morning after replacing the fuse and it blowing again. Auger drive, 1.4 ohms Fan 35.5 Hot rod 72.9
See if you can upgrade the controller for it. There's a few aftermarket ones that kick azz. I love my traeger Good luck.
Using ohms law the 1.4 ohm reading on the auger motor equals a 84 amp draw. It's crispy on the outside and I ordered a new one last night. With everything unplugged from the controller I have 118v from the three leads out. I'll poke around a bit more today, temp outside is -5 degrees. burrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I like the fact that this one was made in Mt. Angel, OR as I have two very fond memories of going to the Oktoberfest there . Co-worker ordered the upgraded controller but couldn't get the Traeger to work, so here I am.
I'll have to check when I get to the shop. So far the hot rod works and the draft infuser fan. Here's the new controller.
Ok, so the new auger motor came in and the smoker is all together again. After starting and setting it to 185 degrees it climed to 321 degrees. I turn the controller to smoke and it's dropped 50 degrees @ about 277 now? This pic is when it was at 321 degrees. Edit: I turned it back up to 180 degrees and it's holding at 212 ish, holding now at 201. Temp is set at 225 and the brisket is on at 2300 cdt, temp is at 250 and dropping, pellet hopper is full.
Has the smoker been settling into the correct temperature? You may have to adjust the P settings for the smoke setting if it isn't at a low enough temperature.
Nice. I love my pellet smoker. It beats messing with lump coal and wood. I doubt I'll ever go back to the tradional method.
The circle tab is still intact so I'm guessing its still on the factory P2 setting. The first brisket was removed at 197 degrees, I foiled it earlier and wrapped it in a towel and placed it in a cooler outside.
