Ok guys and gals. This is a first for me but my stove is still not cleaned from last winter. :emb:

Reality is that I re injured a disk in my neck that kept me from doing my usuall clean and capping of the venting. Now I can clean it but at this point, it has had humidity from the venting. I do have a bucket of Damp Rid that is collecting water so I not its been moist in there.

So, do i just seal it up and wait for fall, or clean it now. AND if cleaning it now should I burn for a few hours first?

This weekend will be low humidity then its coming back full force on Monday-so it make it or break it time. I can burn for a bit tonight or Sat morning and then clean it later Saturday or Sunday.

How many have just capped and left their stove until fall and what was the outcome?

I give the stove itself a thorough cleaning in the spring, just when I'm sure I won't be burning it anymore. I save the flue cleaning for the fall. No particular reason, that's just the way I have always done it for both the wood stove and pellet stove. I like doing it in the fall. This is only the second season I have put a damprid can in the stove. Last fall, I was amazed when I saw how much water had collected in it over the summer.

I'm in the same situation. but not to fear, it will get done. Stove isn't in place right now due to the reconstruction going on here. Good time for me to give it a deep cleaning before it gets brought back in.

I would, but I don't dare to ask for anything else. He is on a timeline to get this done so he can move out and rent his place. I'm trying to help without getting in the way. You would laugh at me if you saw me on store scooter driving around carrying stuff like lumber and pipes. At Lowes, I really don't have to because they are willing to go gather up things I want and bring them back to the check out. Then they load them in my van. What I have learned it to shop there during the week days time hours when their regular crew is on duty. After hours and weekends are not so good for someone with my limitations.

I clean the flue in the fall, before the first burn. I try to wait until there's ice on the roof, just for fun...

That's alright, my owb, hasn't had a door on it in over a month, I took the door of to weld a new inside panel, got it welded took it to work, got it painted and threw it in the truck to put on the stove in the morning, well it rained that night, next morning I went to grab it out of the truck and it weighed a ton! Dang truck bed didn't drain, flooding the bed in turn submerging the door and filling it full of water, saturating the mineral wool I put in it for insulation!:headbang::hair:
Now I just haven't had the time to put it on and start a fire to dry everything out, maybe this week I'll burn for a day or two

Just cleaned mine last week. Had some motivation issues for a month or so, but it's cleaned/sealed/Damp Rid-ed for the summer. Course, I might not burn pellets for awhile either. I have a tank full of propane at $1.39, and corn is still hovering below $130/ton.
