Update on Brad. The tree itself did not fall and hit him! The tree fell away, but did not break away clean. The bark/tree split on the other side of the tree and pulled his harness so tight that it damaged the stomach. No broken bones. All the damage was done by the harness. Still in intensive care and sedated. The doctors say he will recover fine.
See? That'll teach you to wear safety equipment! Just like the poor fella that gets strangled by the seatbelt- just kidding. Coming from a background of law enforcement and orthopedic trauma, we joke about tragedy since we're surrounded by it. Otherwise we'd be eating the barrel of our own gun. Seriously, TurboDiesel, glad your friend has a good prognosis after a scary incident.
Yup, had a cousin killed because the seat belt held her in place...ran off the road and hit a pole, pole broke off and fell right on her. Everybody else in the car had no belts on and were thrown out of the path of the pole...crazy huh?
Sorry to hear that, but those are the freaky accidents that occur. Back in the day, when I rolled on a T/C, those belted in made it. Others,...not so much. EDIT- Sorry for the O/T response.
Tim and Brian, really sorry to read about your brother. Sounds like he was one of those "larger than life" kinda guys, the ones that leave a hole when they're missing. Prayers for you and yours sent.
Brad had surgery again on Friday and is doing better. He was moved to a regular room Saturday and they got him out of bed to stand up. No food yet. Drs says he's recovering quickly but it might take 6 weeks for full recovery. Possibly home on Wednesday. Praise God
Hopefully he has good insurance, and the time off work won't be a hardship either. Somebody's workers comp premium is gonna get ugly though...
I would like everyone to keep my son's friend who is 18 years old that was just killed in a motorcycle accident last night in there prayers. He was a wonderful, kind and very respectful kid. He was going to be a senior this year and was going to be leaving for the Marine Corps upon graduation.
prayers from the border blacksmith for that family.. and yours.. keep your son close.. its hard for teenage boys to deal with death and copious amounts of testosterone
