So, since everyone had withdrawal, what did y'all do?

I got up, logged on here with my coffee, drank coffee, drank more coffee clicked refresh about a dozen rimes over a pot of coffee, then went to the scrap yard and picked up a couple things to finish the gate on the firewood hauler and picked up an awesome axe head. came home and decided to season some cast iron that I had been putting off. This was the first day in a long time I had to "relax" with work keeping me on the road from 4am to midnight the lat few weeks. slept in, made some breakfast and a nice dinner too.

then this made my day... A gransfors bruk felling axe head from one of the scrapyards I frequent. The same place where I got an old cast iron 10.25" dutch oven earlier in the week.. .25 cents a pound for all steel purchased. 5lbs, cost me $1.25... yes a buck twenty five. it has a chip in it, but it will clean up. This is an awesome size axe, bigger than a fiskars, less weight than a maul...I just hope it isn't too thin to make a good splitting axe. Apparently after a little google research, the axe-smith was LP Lennart Pettersson. some of the better ones crest his initials. I'm not sure of the age just yet because the current American felling axe has a shorter bit and is only 4.6lbs. This one is 5.1-5.2lbs and has a much longer bit from all the pictures and reading I did this afternoon.

here is some interesting info on Gransfors Bruks. my axe could be from the 1920-1930's from pics in this article: https://www.canadianoutdoorequipment.com/TheAxeBook.pdf

I really like those 2 deep pans in the oven.
I've never seen any like that.

Man that's a cool find. I made deer bologna with the neighbors and split and took them some apple wood I had to smoke it tomorrow. Moved a little over a cord of wood to make room for more wood. 20141220_121703.jpg

the one is the dutch oven I posted in the cast iron thread, the other is a cheapy I picked up 6 months ago at an outlet store. I bought it mainly to melt lead down in for casting, then liked the size so I just stashed it in the cupboard until I decided to season it. I found another crappy one that is cracked and warped to use for melting lead instead of a decent one.

Nice score on that axe head. Breakfast looks good too

I bucked and split a little. Sold some wood too (gasp  :D).

Then built a fire in the pit, ate some chili, and watched my redskins pull out a win

Thanks. We also picked up 4 slabs of 1 inch thick slate in 2'x3' pieces for on top of the hearth yesterday. A patient had it sitting in his yard leaning against a tree for the last ten years. When I told him what I was working on he asked if I wanted it for on the hearth. Heck yeah!
