I should be making some noise on Friday. I don’t know if I can shoot her new gun before she does, but I’ll ask :emb:

Hi. As I'm waiting for the hunting and target only restrictions to be lifted on my pistol permit, I'm looking at carry guns. I really have a hankering for a Glock 26.

I've handled one several times at stores, and I like what I felt, but haven't shot one. I even bought a kydex pocket holster to see how it would fit in my pleated Dockers type pants, which is all I wear, and the gun seems to fit fine in the pocket. Not sure about how the weight would work, but I've stuffed my pockets before with crap and it hasn't bothered me too much.

I've read that the Glock 26 isn't typically a pocket carry gun, but apparently many people do.
Yes, the double stack makes it wider but not as tall, and it holds the 10 round max (here in NY). It's reliable, and apparently is fun to shoot.

    Opinions?

I see you are in sand lake, what is your personal gun store choice?

With the g26, Obviously pants design plays a role, but I don't really see it printing. Big pockets are a plus!

I love Glocks, my only personal issue is short sight radius. I have no problem switching between grip styles, but short sight radius is harder to shoot.

So I think a 26 in the pocket is great. The g42s are too small in my hand and way too short.
As always shoot it and be confident and proficient before you carry.

I actually don't have a favorite at this point. I bought a couple long guns from Guns, Inc, in Schodack and another one from B&J on Central Ave, (who are both owned by the same guy), and a pistol from Shooters, in Valatie. All three were okay, but I don't have a favorite.

They really aren't too bad with 365-385gr loads. Buffalo Bore 700gr is punishing.

It’s a Alaska thing.:whistle:They are every where. Both Grizzlies and Black bears I don’t keep up with all the deaths and maulings on the news. Only when in my AO. Had to help a neighbor few winters back. Grizz was tearing down the one and only door. Had pushed the top hinge in bottom one still hanging in door wedged and slowly coming inside, luckily was a swing out door had about 10 inch gap at the top. 375 H&H pushing a Woodleigh. No humans injured. Grizz did kill a few of their huskie/malamute mix’s first.

That pair is a hers/his pair. Mom totes the Glock, it is pushing 220 Buffalo Bore. Yes they are nasty. I tote the 56oz Smith in a chest rig. Loaded down with Buffalo Bore as well. I do reload for both. I came across a shop that was closing down and practically was giving that ammo away. Dust on the boxes he was retiring and shutting her down. I bought both cases he had full case of each. Had sold all of the other 10 and 500. He said all that asked for the 10 and 500 did not want the B.B. The 500 does have heavy recoil however it can be managed with proper technique.

The fire ball that comes out is impressive. The energy is above 2,000 lbs at the muzzle. With moose and bears if I have to preserve life again I need a one shot kill right here right now. No such thing as too dead, too much kick, gun...when preserving life.

my shoulders hurt just looking at that 500. my 3" 1911 has fairly stout recoil, and that often makes me regret range trips, I cant imagine the 500! Though, I certainly wouldnt turn down a chance to regret it later.

I was told on a different forum that if you intend to protect yourself from bears with a 9mm that it is best to do so without sites on the gun, so it wont hurt as bad when the pizzed off bear you just shot shoves it up your azz!

The next two handguns I want are the FN Five seven and the S&W 500. The worst recoiling handgun I have is my sheild in 45.

Funny every time I hear the file the front sight off joke. 500 has a 4 inch ported barrel. Must be the extra inch that tames it to a pussycat. Stance/grip is everything it is manageable. A 4 inch ported barrel with 40 grains of powder pushing 400-700 grain pill will never shoot like a 22 lr. With proper technique you can easily obtain repeatable accuracy. It’s a five shot both the wife and I can keep 5 rounds @ double action as fast as the front site recovers to the target to 6 or less inches @15 yards. I practice more than she does and with muscle mass on my side I got below 4.85 on a timer. That type of shooting is not pleasant and is saved for the last 5 rounds of the day. The wife is 8-10 seconds. A professional firearms instructor can give you a good foundation for any pistol work.

Would rather have a 9mm than a sharp stick.
