Was nosing around looking at Google images and stumbled upon this thread. I'm a true novice when it come to working with wood, and can't even store it where I live... Hoping to learn a lot and contribute some!
Welcome aboard TripleF As I remember, Florida had some trees that have some very long limbs....perhaps they are oaks? Seemed they stretched out forever! (Hint) I bet a new member could post some pics of such trees, no?
West central FL coast...is that like Sarasota area? Welcome to FHC! First free bit of advice...keep a close eye on Eric VW Oh, and if you can't store wood where you live you (obviously) will need to rent a couple acres to cut and hoard on...just sayin :stacke:
Move. Welcome, TripleF Glad to have you here! I think you're gonna like it here! Which image/thread got your attention? BBQ?
Welcome to da club I don't know if it gets that cold down there or if you have a stove, but no matter, Put some wood in the fire pit and do some campfire drinkin
WOW, thanks for the warm welcome fellas! I don't have a stove....I live in a condo. I cut wood by hand with axe and saw and store at family's homes for use in winter to sit around the firepit, smoke cigars and drink bourbon. I use my family's firepits......I just supply the wood. I run off to the local Park to cut wood for the campers (also teach my grandsons how to handle an axe properly) and take a few slivers for myself. Yeah, a little north of Sarasota......New Port Richey.
I searched for: axe head, heavy but soft steel (because I have one that is unbranded) Then I searched images and clicked on the image of 3 mauls, then looked at the images attached to that, clicked on the logs on the trailer because it's website name was THIS site and I was like.....
Long limbs.......like as in Live Oaks? Yeah, we got 'em.....worst wood in the world to try and split.... Just do an image search for LIVE OAK TREE!
Ya know....is it possible, here in FL, that I bumped into a tupelo tree? Now that I recall it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder to split than LIVE OAK and had no grain pattern....
