One of my chainsaw is a stihl ms230 and i want to put on it a chain .325'' 63'' RS and 16'' bar,
instead of what i'm using now 3/8 50''PM3 and 14'' bar.
What do i think is a good idea or not ?

You'll have to make a couple of other changes to make it work.

One of my saws is a ms230, it came stock with 16" bar .325 and .50 gauge. It works just fine with that, the.63 gauge may be slightly heavier but shouldn't me much different than the .50 that is on my saw.

I had an MS230 with the 16" .325" setup on it. It worked fine but why would you want to switch to .325" over the 3/8"P you have now?? Just get a 3005 mount bar in 3/8"P .050" and have a longer loop of chain made for it.

The .063 will really not need more or less power. It is simply how thick the drive links are. What will affect power is the pitch, in your case .325 vs .375 and the number of pins on the driving part of your clutch, the sprocket. Because smaller pitch often comes with a higher drive sprocket pin count they may or may not cancel out. If you go from a 7 pin .375 to an 8 pin .325 you may find that the new chain requires more power because the force of those 8 pins will be the same force your engine can supply for those 7 pins. Actually the calculation comes out at about 1% less power required for those particular ratios on the .325 chain.

    7 x 0.375= 2.625
    8 x 0.325=2.6

The numbers do not relate to a particular power level but are used for a ratio comparison only. If you found an exactly identical pin count sprocket for the .325, the power requirement would drop dramatically by the ratio of .325/.375 or .867. Call it a 13% power reduction.

    BTW, welcome to FHC CoolSnow

i want to switch because i want to use a Rapid Super chain and i have only 3 options :
    1) .325'' 50''
    2) .325'' 63''
    3) 3/8 63''
all of them 16'' bar. I could use 325'' 50'' but i'm curious about 63'' if my little engine can run it, my sprocket is for 3/8 but 3/8 63'' i think is too heavy

.325, .050 is plenty heavy chain for that use. The .063 chain is a bit thicker but should not present a challenge. I am curious why you want the heavier links. I run a .050 20 inch 3/8 all day on my 555 AT which is a heavier saw engine with no troubles. The chain is plenty strong at .050 for my 60 cc saw engine. Your much smaller 45 cc engine has no need for such a heavy chain. At 16 inch I would expect the little engine to pull the chain OK but you would be much better running a 14 inch bar. You local dealer can spin a 14 inch RS chain for you with no problem if that is what you really want. Moving from a 3/8 picco to a full size chain is already going to be a step up for that engine.

I would stay with the Picco chain. That is some fast cutting stuff. I would take Master Mechanics advice.

Stay with the picco. Ps or ps3 is the full chisel cutter in that size.

As far as .050 vs .063 in .325 the .063 will oil slightly better. You won't see any other performance difference.
