Hello Pellet people Im considering getting a pellet stove for my finished garage/laundry room its a little over 400sq ft with 10 ft ceilings. Im wondering if yall have any recommendations for a small pellet heater to heat that area without driving everyone out from being to hot. I am also thinking that I will open the door going into the house and that could let some heat into the kitchen not that it needs it really my only goal is to heat the garage area.

Because its a garage? You may want to contact your ins agent. Some will allow it, but it will have to be on a raised Hearth around 18"-24" off the ground? (IIRC? )

Any smaller stove that will auto ignite and run on/off will work. This means that when the stat temp is reached, it shuts down. When temp drops and Stat call for heat, stove starts.

    Some nice smaller units are

    Quadrafire Santa fe
    Quadrafire Castile
    Quadrafire Classic Bay 1200
    Enviro mini
    Englander 25-EP
    Englander 25-PAH
    Englander 10-CPM
    Heatilator PS-35
    Heatilator PS-50
    Harman P 43
    Harman Advance

    Many others out there. .

As mentioned above, a refurbed Englander 25pdvc, or an Enviro Mini.

PDVC isn't on /off? For a little more, you can have a newer generation PAH, EP, CPM, Or IP

Only single auger stoves do both. But those other stoves will "bake" him out of that small room, as you said.

    I'd suggest the Mini...rated at 600 - 1200 sq ft

I know only Single augers do both. Have had 2 PDV's.
That's why i questioned the suggestion of the PDVC twice? High/Low only should not be suggested, as 400 Sq ft (even if it was leaky) is to much. On/Off only with High/Low option is best. Which takes PDVC and PDVC off the list.

Unless he wants to shut it down and start it up a lot.

Op- Have you checked your local CL? Anything in the 30,000-45,000 BTU with the ability to start up and shut down on its own .

    Hello
I have a Harman P61a-2 with Selkirk DT venting in my converted garage. It is Auto-On/Off plus ramps the fire up and down to keep the room temperature automatically. I got it used. The seller wanted $250 and I talked him down to $225. :) All it needed was a new convection blower, a hopper lid latch, a new circuit board, a new ignitor, a complete paint job and a new black fire door. I also got the newer ash door and ash pan plus I just scronged a nickel tile frame. Also built a raised hearth with pressure treated lumber and waterproof composite trim with porcalin tile over cement board with a 3/4 inch plywood for strength. I painted some old brass louvre chrome. Now all I need is a nice scenic tile. :) It was definitely worth it!

Don, did you read the thread title? How does a P-61 work it's way into a thread about a small stove. Yes it has auto On/Off, but in 400 sq. ft. it would be 95 degrees before the stove finished starting up!

What are all these abbreviations? PDVC PDV PAH, EP, CPM, Or IP? Im a little lost with those but any way Im going to look around on CL and see what I can find Im in no hurry this will probably be done over the spring and summer Im just trying to get some ideas right now. I looked at the Enviro Mini and keep coming back to it as it seems to be the smallest out there and I like the controls on it with the auto on off. I also need to check with my ins company to see if they will allow it.

Most if not all of those initials are stove model numbers from England Stove Works. I not up to date on their models, so can't say they all are.

Those are all Englander model #'s. That's exactly what they are called. They mean something for all models. I only know a couple (EP= Evolution Pellet). But they only use the letter designation.

    25-PDVC (not recommended)
    25-PDV (not recommended)
    These would all work below
    25-EP (beautiful unit)
25-PAH (Big hopper, but looks like a box)
10-CPM (Pretty stove, and Multi fuel unit)
25-IP (Modern styling and there latest unit)

Quadrafire makes an awesome stove for on/Off only, as does Hearilator. The Heatilator can be had for around $1,500 new (PS-35 a Lil less, the PS-50 a Lil more).

The Mini is an awesome unit. If you can find a used one? I'd go with that.

I have a friend that had one.....quietest stove I saw. On low I didn't even know it was running. He used it in a sun porch which was about 15' x 20', and let the excess heat go into the house. He loved it, and it was his first pellet stove.

How about a Rocket Stove fed by pellets?…. you can build one yourself out of scrap metal…
