Burning down accumulated brush and junk wood today. I plan to scoop the ashes out and make proper pit for entertaining and enjoyment. Show me your fire pit please. I would like to see what other people have done to aid in design.
Here's mine with the washer drum and without. I use the drum for smaller fires and easier control. Pit is just strictly to get something big going and often I use it to get the trashwood or bark fires going in the fall. Churns up great heat either way. This is an upgrade from when I moved in. A shoddy brick and broken cinder block circle was what began this coveted center of burning enjoyment and libations.
Thanks for the link and thanks to all that responded. At first I was thinking about a fancy pit, but to heck with putting on heirs. It is all about the fire and not how it looks. I will stack up some firebricks, that I got from employer before I retired, after I scoop my burn pit out. Don't need to spend the extra money on fanciness.
Seriously if you think about it, its just something you have to replace if it begins to break. The fire will always be the mainstay. People get elaborate but forget the center of gravity to what a fire is. Tune to your needs and fancies. I dug mine out not long ago and justifiably so. The ash does pile up. Get something set up so you can do it again with ease when need be.
I don't consider this a pit.......it's more for burning branches from the pine in the winter or wet times.
No locust, A little of everything, odds n ends ,some oak , it was a hot fire though. Camp Fire Drinkin
Here are a few pics of my firepit, we use it for fun fires and also to burn off fallen branches and tops of fallen trees. Recently had a rolling cover made so I can fill it up with wood, keep it covered and dry until ready for a fire with friends. It's 5 feet diameter, 14 inches deep, custom made by a welder friend, who also helped make the rolling cover.
Just finished this about 15 minutes ago The stone will show better color once it rains on it, just kind of muddy right now
Behaving as if you're better than other people — wealthier, better dressed, or better educated — is to put on airs. It is a french etymology
