This was my first thought, but I didn't have any and when I looked around in stores and on eBay I thought they cost too much not knowing if they would really work.
I still like the idea but now wonder if the added length both for ankle and know would restrict movement. Although catchers seem to move freely enough with them
I'll keep watching for them. If anyone tries catchers pads please post results

Just wanted to give an update on these cheap shin guards.
I laughed thinking these were a joke when I got them but now after using them for a couple of weeks not so much!
They are small and light. I even forgot to take them off and went to the store.
Did not realize they were on after a while and most important- no more cuts and scabs on shins.
They just protect the center of shin where splits hit.

I like it Mike...since the ones you bought were so inexpensive, why not get a second pair and duct tape them together to make knee to ankle coverage a reality?

Your shins were getting beat up but your toes aren't black and blue wearing sneakers ?
I have to wear steel toed shoes. I'd probably have lighter weight composite if I didn't need/want steel for cutting.

Eric VW i have 2pairs of these 1 red 1 black. When I first got them I thought they were ridiculously small and wanted larger ones. All my cuts and scars are in the center of my shin from upper ankle to 6" below knee and these cover this area well. Like you I thought they were too small till I tried it for laughs

billb3 i have steel toed work boots and always use them when cutting trees and logs into lengths. When splitting sitting down my feet don't get under logs. The problem is when doing multiple splits from one log quarter often one split will tip and fall toward my shin before I can grab it. Usually it's the upper fresh split edge that hits center shin.

Can't believe I'm the only one this happens to.

Well you're not the only one it happens to me too, but I don't split all my wood vertical so it doesn't happen as often

Excellent idea. Not only for protection from a hit, those guards wrapped around your pants will help keep ticks from getting up your leg.

OK, thanks for the info. My shins are constantly bumping into things when I am working in the woods, loading etc. doesn't make for pretty legs.

Go on youtube, and watch the 2 minute movie clip on "Slap Shot Regatta." The protective gear is hysterical!

Replace SPORTS with FHC and we've got some swag.
Any PPE could be a swag opportunity.
    That's a two-fur!

I did the same thing myself. Local sporting good store always has soccer shin guards in stock.

Well, I have a new beauty mark on my legs. I lifted a round off of the pile I am splitting and another one roll down and banged into my shin. See, I am getting banged up and I am not even in the woods.
