I used to install these for a living in a previous life but I had very little interest in them back then as an apartment dweller so I didn't learn much about them besides the fact that they are heavy and that Quadrafires sold very well. My firebox is 45" wide, 34 tall, 26 deep and the flue opening is 40" long and 6" wide at a 45 degree angle towards the rear of the firebox. Our house is roughly 1450 sq ft ranch with forced air heat so I'm planning to run the furnace fan to circulate the heat though out the house along with the blower in the insert. I'm looking for suggestions on what size and brand of unit, budget wise I'm just looking for the best bang for my buck. We are trying to heat our house this winter and next and so on, and have been getting hard wood by the truck load delivered via chip drop and have invested in a 30 ton splitter so I'd like to think I'm ready to go in that regard. I'm located in Milwaukee, Wi. Thank you for your time, looking forward to getting the ball rolling before it cools off here.

I have a Quadrafire 4100i insert in my similarly sized ranch house. I'm apparently not to far from you either. I'm on the far north side of Milwaukee.

I heat my place with my insert, and from time to time will turn on the HVAC fan if it gets too toasty.

It's going to be a little bit before we have our first fire, but it will happen eventually.

I'll have to look and see what dimensionally will fit, but I think you'd be fine with any of the mid sized to larger units. You should plan on using a SS liner for your stove. They make running the "chimney" really easy

Right where I want to be.
When did this begin? If just recently, the wood is likely not dry.
Can't help with an insert, but there are plenty here who have 'em, as evidenced by Horkn 's response.
    Also, welcome aboard.

Papadave, I have about 2 face cord that's seasoned (2 years) and another 3 that's fresh cut this year that will need to sit.

Are you happy with it? And do you remember what you paid for it with the liner? And from where?

We are off hwy 100 and hampton

just like Horkn....we also have the quadrafire 4100i insert. we have a 1300 sq. ft. ranch. we just had it installed a couple weeks ago, so cant give any input on how it works but we did a lot of research and looking around. i have no doubt that the unit will work great.

We've had our Quadrafire 4100 for a couple of seasons. Our house is just under 1700 sq ft and it has zero problems to keep the house warm, if not hot.

The liner kits are about $400, give or take depending on length and size. The insert, I bought used, barely used with the SS liner kit. So I won't tell you what I stole it for.

well it sounds like you got a better deal than me. lol. we went with new insert and ss liner. plus the installation cost we paid just a little over $4000. out of all the different inserts we looked at quadrafire was the most expensive but they are worth it.

    I installed mine myself.

All in all, I had it going for less than what the SS liner kit costs.

That's not normal though. I think the 4100i is about a $2500 insert.

Wow, that was a steal. From what I've gathered, it's roughly $2500 before you add the trim and the liner

As far as wood guess, yeah, you'll need more than you have ready now. At least if you want to have daily fires. do you have anywhere to cut trees? Dead standing elm will get you through this winter, and probably more. There's a ton this around, and even dead standing ash that will not the same result, if not easier splitting and a little better btu wise.

Now, I use a moisture meter to ensure the moisture content it's 20% or less, but dead standing elm, that's had the bark fall off is generally good to go even that same day. Well, once you get past the first 8 feet or so.

Any advice or anyone know the differences between the century cw-2900-i and the drolet escape 1800-i ? They look very similar in capacity / size and efficiency
