Let me start by saying I am NOT a military veteran and I am in no way trying to have any stolen valor here, nor take anything away from you guys, what you have done, or hat you did, it is just my understanding that you know more about this stuff than me. Every year about this time I get very melancholy, to the point of being irritable, almost to the point of violence and self destruction. I never act upon it, but a few weeks before 9-11 and a few weeks afterwards, I get very agitated. So much so the wife keeps the kids away from me so I don't lash out at them. Part of it may stem from having been at 911 for 9 months when I worked for the railroad. I know everyone says to "remember 9-11", but honestly, I just want to forget. I can't. But as I said, I know many of you have seen worse so its no comparison, but it still bothers me 15 years later. Is this PTSD or another issue? I do have similar irritability issues when I forget to take my seizure medication, but my Dr says no it would not cause that, but my Pharmacists says it certainly would. My Dr is having me take less seizure pills, but this would seem to make it worse, not better. I have also recently retired and it has been a dramatic change in my life and could be a stressor. Good in most ways, but stressful too. So I don't know. Is it because 9-11 was a bigger issue this year because it was the 15th anniversary? Did it get to me more because I had other stressors, or could it be I never dealt with some things 15 years ago? Forgive me for coming onto your board and asking questions. Again many of you have seen so much more than I have. Just trying to get along with my family and be a bit more jovial, but when you are given a MS 461 chainsaw by a friend and it does little to cheer you up, something is misfiring and its not the new chainsaw.
I was just thinking, if this is upsetting to any of you who have seen some stuff, please let a moderator know, and have it deleted. I would never want to upset anyone!
Seek professional help. If you have PTSD, there is help available. The longer you let it go, the worse it gets. You can be destructive to yourself and those around you.
Nope, "NOT" at all! Your here for help and that's perfectly fine!!! As savemoney said, Reach out, even the Veterans administration will assist you, at least get you in the right direction. Unfortunately it happens to a "LOT" of folks this time of year, more than you think. Change in season, barometric pressure, over cast skies and so on... Big think is, stay busy and don't isolate yourself!!! If you are a drinker, please do it moderatley. Also, there are counsel groups all over the web, pick one in your area, Just make a phone call and reach out!!! And don't forget were here.
