image.jpeg We buy dough and roll it out to make our own pizzas. Tried a new dough and was able to rolll it out nice and this...just how I like it (sorry Chicago folks)

This one is a combo of bacon mushroom tomato sauce and the green one is pesto with thinly sliced onions and bacon and mushroom

Man, that looks good. Nothin' like homemade pizza on a cold day. I've got some frozen dough and I'm taking it out right now to thaw.

That looks great. I could really go for some right now. Years ago I started out cooking pizza over wood using an old Weber grill. I cut an arch with a jig saw in the cover and built small, hot fires way in the back. The pizza was on a perforated pan that was spun every 20 seconds or so. The fire cooked the bottom crust nicely and the fire rose over the top and out the arch. It was really good, and pretty authentic. That hooked me into building the larger oven. This is a simple solution for the wood fired experience.

The temps were pretty respectable and perfect for pizza. Probably even hotter at the top inside of the cover.

    Mmm pizza.

That reminds me of my wife's homemade pizza. Especially the ones she makes with morels I find, along with prosciutto, roasted garlic, and caramelized onions. Uhhhhh:drool:

One of these days a wood fired oven on the patio will happen.

Anybody ever make pizza on a pre-heated stone in a heating wood stove? Either over just coals or maybe a small fire in one corner? Seems like a decent idea?

Nice...I've messed around with my Weber to make pizza. It works ok, but it's far from ideal. I'm still on the fence about a pizza oven. Think it would be a lot of fun, but not sure how often I'd use it. And it would eat into my yard, which is pretty small.

that could work...but the trick with pizzas usually is getting the heat to the top. brown the cheese, crust. there's only one way to find out...

I would place some firebricks over the coal bed and make a deep dish pizza in a cast iron pan. A few small maple splits in the corner for flame to cook over the top. Thermal shock to a pizza stone or cast pan is always a risk

That sounds like it's worth a try. I broke a pizza stone on the Weber with thermal shock.
