This is a custom built saw, built on a Husqvarna 365 Special NOS bottom end. All new OEM components, except for an OEM Stihl 064 piston, with Caber rings and a Hyway 52mm BBK using the 064 piston. Makes a 76.4cc saw.

Mr. Chin is likely all over it. He likes a nice and small saw. To take a 365 and shoehorn that engine in it? Sounds right up his alley?

I may be wrong? But I have been a friend of Jchin for awhile and just like others? He likes what he likes. Same for all of us. :)

Physically it should be near identical to a 372XP. I'm not really a Hisky guy but IIRC the 362XP/Special, 365XP/Special, and the various 372 flavors are all built on the same chassis no? What makes this one special is the 365 badging, the 52mm cylinder and the 064 slug. Wouldn't mind slicing off a cookie or two with it myself. Wonder how it would take to some SAR?

The 362 came with both bar mounts is the only difference besides the high top filter and low top. I'm sure it would benefit some from metal removal in the right places.

Just to be a little better educated. Does the smaller engine, after it's all been custom built, able to take the abuse of a 70cc saw? I can understand size and weight being more comfortable, and who wouldn't. Just thinking of engine longevity for the money spent vs a factory 70cc.

MDavlee is correct, IIRC the only saw to use the 280 bar mount (362) all others including the 365SP used the 380 (large) mount. HVA released the 362 again for 1 year, US distribution only, built on the large bar mount case. The difference in the cases between a 362 and the 372 case is confined to the bar mount.

The 362XP I have for sale is the original small mount saw. I have built a few 362XPs with the 75cc top end, they run and work fine, the 280 mount is the limiting factor not because of strength, in the 280 (K095) moumt only a limited choice of quality bars are available.

    See
No different bottom end in it or the factory xpw. This is a good deal and could be a real strong runner.

The original 362XPs had a Gilardoni, 47mm jug, with a very slightly smaller CC. They do run well but not quite as well as the 262XP (early model with KS top end, smaller CC also) IMHO.

My neighbor has one of those 362 Specials, with the 380 mount. Nice saw, needs more cc's on that chassis.....

My buddy Joe and I have been doing some experiments with 'tuned pipe' (not expansion chambers) on chainsaws. The idea being to keep the saw between max-torque and max-HP rev range. If lets say the engine develops max torque at 6000 and max HP at 10K you want the saw to stay in its' power band. After reving to 10K going to 11 or 12 gets you nothing, saw is already past its' max range.

A tuned pipe will keep the engine in the max power range. There is a whole pile of measuring and math that goes along with this. If you look closely at the muffler of this saw which has a tuned pipe, try to find the 3.75 inch pipe. Most of the length of the pipe is hidden inside the muffler! Tuned pipes ONLY work if they are the only exit, so the factory outlet must be blocked off, I do this by fabricating a copper plate that you install in place of the spark screen, which effectively blocks the factory outlet but is removable if you want all the 'manly' noise back!
