Why cant you harvest more than 50 feet back? Its to bad you cant take any standing dead. There are lots of trees behind your 50 ft mark that would make great habitat trees.

That's what they have set up. Probably so your not taking your truck off the road. If I personally found a nice standing dead. I would harvest it.

The vehicle thing makes sense although having a somewhat limited knowledge of your location I would think it has lots of mountainous terrain like mine and for the most part a truck cant get off road in the bush anyways. Ive climbed some ice routes on Baker and Rainier. You have some beautiful areas out there. Certainly cant beat your forests for their beauty.

Yes, pretty mountainous in the area. Lot of areas are steep. Others are easier to cut and roll the bucked wood to the truck.

Yeah I dont buck on the downside of a slope, always on the upside. Rolling rounds downwards is nice except when they hit the truck :picard:
I havent had the chainsaw running since sometime in November and wont be able to get out until the snow is gone in April and that will just be in the low lying areas. I like to hit the high country near by to drop some sub alpine fir when the high roads open up.

The rules look really funny. They say you can get six cords, and you buy two "tags" at a time for twenty bucks. Okay, sounds good, I'll buy 6 tags. Then they show that they want you to use one tag for a load of wood level with the bedrails which we know is less than half a cord.

Have you ever been checked? Do they expect one tag per cord (tape measure) or do they follow their stupid one tag for level load and two tags for sideboards. For reference, I built sideboards and I can only get 0.75 cords in.

I've always gone by as much as I can fit in the truck without sideboards per ticket. If you split and tightly stack it with sideboards you should get a cord.

Maybe you meant my Ford? The tires had sunken into the grass but it was loaded heavy. I have the torklift overloads but not airbags.

Honestly I hear people go up and cut and haul out way more than a half cord a ticket. I've never been stopped. I think it depends what time of year when the Rangers will be around.

I'm going to try it. I know the 70 line very well, 74 line too. Love getting up into those woods and have a 28" bar. I honestly thought that they made it impossible, like you had to be on the east side. Do they shut down for fire hazard in like June?

I know guys that use cables and snatch blocks to drag the logs to the roadside. Would make life easier than rolling 50 feet!

Looking to head up there on Friday, hoping for some big firs laying down on the side of the road.

Up top might be your best bet. All the stuff right off 70 might be clear.

Any suggestions? I might plan to go in on 70, then left onto that bridge road, and then climb to the snow. We've gotten some xmas trees up there years ago and the elevation gain is quick. What do you mean when you say up top?
