Thanks. After that last repair bill, it was time to start looking a bit harder. This thread has given me a lot to chew on. Thanks for starting it. :handshake: Don't get me wrong it was nice, but I guess I just expected more out of it. My 04 was a single cab and short bed, so that might have helped a bit too, with a hyper tune. But I'm still drooling over that 10 speed... that was a pure pleasure to drive. :D.

    Congrats, I hope that it treats you well. My 06 E350 5.4 has 226K & 01 F250 6.8 226K. Both run like new.

Yes, got the 3.5 EB .... so far I like the handling of it. Stepping down a couple of years allowed me to get the sport package. And it's only got a little over 18,000 miles on it... now I've Gotta get used a full size truck again...

thought it was typo or odd 2 vehicles with same mileage.. glad to know I am not only one to keep vehicle til it dies... literally track repair costs for each quarter and year to see if it stays lower than upgrading...

Naw man, muh tires is worn out and the dealer says my brakes are shot plus I might need to flush my blinker fluid. Its been, like, two years since I got a new car and that's just too much money to fix. Ima be better off buying a new one so I doesn't have to worry about such things.:makeitrain"

You forgot about the 90 month financing to hit the specific $$ per month payments. You're under water as soon as you sign the paperwork.:picard:

It's true though. I was cruising FaceBook (windows up and the doors locked for sure) and there's this post to an article about how car repairs are just so darned expensive. People getting slapped with surprise bills of nearly...... wait for it....... six hundred dollars!!! Immediately the comments section is aflame with folks calling out those devious shop owners and their evil minion mechanics.

MasterMech I assume you joking... but I got friends that trade in because of brakes and tires:picard: and IMO negative equity does not exist.. it's an oxymoron or BS WORD so car salesman don't have to tell people the truth ... You owe more on it than its worth... I also am NOT a mechanic master or otherwise... I've driven Saabs for years because 1) they are a really safe vehicle and 2) I had a master (40 years Saab only) mechanic... that charged me 38 dollars an hour and once charged me 20 minutes to do a timing chain..:jaw:.. I could not find the chain in 20 minutes..
much less change IT! he built custom tool to do it.. however GM bought saab.. he turned 72 and retired.. now looking for new mechanic and a truck.. why I am reading this thread so closely.. Horkn .. is a smart guy! The f150 maybe my next vehicle.. aluminum to keep rus at bay etc..etc.. I been driving turbos for years since 1987 a good well designed turbo gives you power when you need too pass or get on interstate upto speed in short distance with good gas mileage .. a 302 5 liter tried an true do not need expert to fix it.. so keep posting because I am still learning from the wise ones..

Yeah, I'm just poking at some folks is all. But that article was seriously blaming the mechanics and shop owners for emptying consumers checking accounts. :picard::doh:

In all seriousness, there is a financial education problem in this country but seems as if the awareness level is a bit higher lately than in previous years.

I admit I like shiny things just as much as the next guy. And there's nothing wrong with keeping your stuff shiny, so long as you aren't eating Ramen or selling out your kids future to do it. ;)

No surprise. Teachers often don't live in the real world. They have months off every year for vacation and benefits packages that many of us can only dream about. They are paid a good living wage although not as much as they might make in the business world working 12 months a year and living with a constant threat of layoff and other life events.

There's a lot of fancy new cars occupying space in apartment complex parking lots.

I really do like the idea of a new truck!
I really don't like the idea of a new truck payment!!

So... the '01 Dodge just got 2 new doors and tail gate and tires.
Oh! and the tires suck...so they'll be coming off with just 200 miles on them...:headbang:
    Gotta find different tires today...:hair:
