Recently installed a Heritage Chestnut fireplace insert. It was the only one we could find in budget, that actually was big enough to fill the masonry fireplace (with a big enough surround). I have been unable to find any info on it at all online. Mfgr date was '82.

I'd appreciate any info and or links you can share on this unit.

    Thanks!

Please note the combustibles you see in the pic will be moved before firing the insert.

What is the black box to the left with the piece sitting on the hearth in front of the stove? Some sort of blower?

Coming back to this...I had a thought it might be like some kind of "cold air return?" Just spit ballin' for a sec.

Ridgeback303, besides giving us the model name, can you use a mirror and flashlight to find an actual model # ?

Sorry for the slow replies. Lost the login info for the forum! The black box to the left, and the bar in front are the blower unit. It is not attached to the insert, merely resting in front of the lower intake for the hot air return. I can't get a pic of the mfgr plate as it is on the back side, and this thing is far too heavy to haul out of position for that unless the chimney is being swept. I am unsure if I have a photo somewhere of it though. If I do, I will post it once I find it.

Fishers and Kodiak inserts had the blower unit like that off to the side, the Fisher would blow in from the bottom, around the stove and bring the heated air out the top, Cool concept. Ridgeback, Welcome to the neighborhood!!!:) Glad to have you here. I have an old book I'll try to find and I "think" it has a Heritage stove in it. Don't hold me to this but Heritage stove was a company that came and went in the early 80's like old mill, Shrader, Buck, just to name a few. I don't think it was around long "But" it looks like a fine quality insert! As long as it's safe and functional, have a blast and get'r warm! :D:MM: I'll do some digging and see what I find! ;)

Thanks Weldr! I had it checked out by my sweep, and he said it looked good to go. It gets hot, and burns clean if I feed it right. Way cleaner than the massive open fireplace it is filling. Production date is 1982, and I suspect from the utter lack of info I have found online about Heritage, I suspect the company closed in the mid '80's. It has a baffle, and the floor and half way up the sides are firebricked. I put in a low flat grate in the bottom, to reduce the risk of cracking the bricks.

    heritage wood stove

The best I can come up with is they were produced for a short period of time through the 80's and the company was called, "Heritage stove manufacturing" and they were located in China grove, N.C. "Not" to be confused with the Hearth stone stove, Heritage addition. They are not the same company. I have an old book with many of the 60's 70's and 80's manufactures stoves, It is now online. The only other person "I" know that may have some info on it is Coaly on this forum! I'll tag him and see, he may not be around for a day or so... Also, "grates" are not needed in that stove if you have a bottom lip, which I believe you do. Don't worry about cracking the brick, it can take 3500 degrees.
All the grate will do is cramp your burning area and make it harder to clean, it really does nothing. Above is a pic I found of the wood stove like your insert, Good looking stove!

The logo on your pic is the same as on my insert, so yes they are from the same company. Thanks for looking it up! There is a bottom lip in the insert, but I will continue to use the grates,'r eonly about 2" high as I spent some $$ on them, and cannot return them since they are used. They don't take up too much space really. They are easy to remove when cold, for shoveling out ash.

This insert, even with a small fire puts out a ton of heat rather fast, so I really need to get some better fans to move it out of the living room, and kitchen and into other areas of the house. Our floorplan is somewhat "closed" and box fans take up too much space in the doorways, so I am going to investigate 'tower fans' instead.

That's entirely your call. I just wanted you to know that firebrick doesn't need a grate, none of the Fishers, Kodiak's or others had them. The stove/insert looks very nicely built and by the condition of the glass door, doesn't look like it had much use.

You can take Buck off that list Dave. They are still going strong. :D
