I hope the link to the video will work but a pic is below also. Let know if Dropbox is a good way to upload vids. This maul is an amazing piece of engineering. It splits like a dream and is a lot easier on the shoulders and hands. Worth every penny it cost. Dropbox - Splitting Red Oak.mp4 T2 Tappin'
Welcome Johnny! Those pic's are beautiful of your wood stash and even more the scenery. Flat out jealous....!! Is there a such thing as being born in the wrong place? Grew up a City kid in South Philadelphia, but every part of me wants to be in the country somewhere with land around me. After seeing that ISOCORE Fiskars I had to go change my shorts......When is that income tax check coming.....! Love splitting by hand as I too am a desk jockey in front of a PC all day. Nice being outdoors and getting a great workout & keeping active!!!!
Man, that looks just like the Oak and hard Maple that I first tried my new 8# out on...after I split it with the hydro it was no wonder...some of the most twisted, gnarly, tough wood I may have ever been into...I should have gotten a pic of the pile for y'all, very few nice splits from the whole load...a big pile of uglies though!
I was in the hardware store neighborhood the other day so I thought it was a good idea to see if any had an ISO core. I stopped in 4 stores and they all had a decent supply of Fiskars products, but no ISO core. One even had the sledgehammer thing. Anybody know why don't carry them in the stores? I know I can just order on-line, but I would like to get my hands on one before I purchase
Order from a local True Value store, if you don't like it when it comes in don't buy it I saw somewhere the other day that Sioux Falls is one of the ten happiest cities in the U.S.
I need to invest in a decent maul, the one i have now is junk. Swinging that monster will earn you some popeye arms. Lol!
Had a buddy swing the iso core this morning for about 45 min ..... He was done swinging it. Lol. In his defense he doesn't split wood very often. It really worked well though and he liked it. It is definitely a keeper. If anything for buddies to swing when they need some timber R&R
Oh boy, I couldn't imagine swinging that thing for 45 minutes, my poor back would give out for sure, not to mention my arms, shoulders wrists, neck....However, I do use it, albeit very occasionally, but I like having it in my arsenal.
I might lean mine against my stack that long while I use the X27 for most of the splitting. It does come in handy when I need it though.
I saw one at tractor supply I promptly paid for it and took it home. Compared to my Collins maul , actually it's not comparable lol. Like it a bunch
Well you talked me into it, expecting a fiskars maul by pony express in two days. This forum keeps costing me money!

I got my maul, but am kinda disappointed with it. I took some swings at the maple I've been hauling home, and the maul just bounced off. I grabbed my X27, and could at least get it to stick in the maple. I then tried it side by side on some smaller stuff somebody left in my yard, and found I still get better results with the X27. I was about to return the maul to amazon, but then I discovered that this maple is so tough it can stall my predator splitter. I needed the maul to beat the rounds loose from the wedge on the splitter, and sometimes, the shock of hitting the round started the split in the round. I guess I'll keep it, but I like the X27 better
I had the same results in some Maple and Oak. But when I used the hydraulics on them, it turned out it was probably the toughest, gnarliest, most twisted, tough wood I have ever split. Ended up with a large pile of "uglys" and very few really nice straight splits. Those two yard trees were definitely not a fair test for the maul...further testing since then has revealed its a good tool...maybe not as impressive as the X27 (25) but a good tool at a fair price (and great warranty) none the less.
