Judging by the saw in the second pic Santa has been hanging out on Another Site a lot! Wonder what his screen name is?
Simply a fun joke about the tendency of some on arborist site to go overkill with chainsaws. Since santa appears to have cut a 4" xmas tree with a 661 or 880 mag.
Should have bought and tested at least 3 40cc saws, sold the 2 that didn't make it and sent the third off for porting before he cut that tree.
And, all that after using every possible pitch ,gauge ,cutter type ,cutter sequence chain ,sharpened on several different grinders ,using many different wheel types . Note : I left out the several types of bar oil ,as I wanted to avoid an oil thread .
How dare you suggest he use anything other than a hand file! Although buying a square grinder for personal use is probably ok as they are usually worth more than the saw they are sharpening! (So says the owner of many rediculously expensive chainsaw toys.... )
Let's not forget different rim sprocket set ups! he obviously said fuq it when he realize the 40cc woods ported wouldn't pull a 24" b&c with a 8 tooth sproket. Now its a shelf queen and he limbs with the 661!
I'm sure at some point there will be a thread on the rockwell hardness of various files compared to their cutter layout ,and cost per ounce . Give it time ! I do have to admit to owning a simington for personal use ,as well as a USG . But, if you ever priced Valorbe files for doing square chain ..... The grinder is cheaper in the long run ! So, I guess this is a pot ,meet kettle post .
I know I dream about this when I spoon my saws! Everybody knows you gotta keep those cutters cool or their junk. Probably what ultimately caused the OP's saw to fail.
Here's some pictures of my New aftermarket farmertec 49mm motor, going in my Stihl 029 super. I have new Caber piston rings on order, but other than that I will be running it as is. Tell me what you guys think.
