So I replied to a post for maple firewood $75obo. I proceeded to nicely say I'd gladly clean up their mess, but wouldn't want to pay them to do it ;)
    Here is their pics.

Showed up @ 8:20 ready to work. Kept my son home from school to help (he had a dr. appt later in the day) and boy am I glad I did! It ended up being 3 truck/trailer loads. Already cut and 80% noodled down to manageable size. Had to take a few chunks further. And 80% of the wood was solid. There was some rot, but he wanted it all gone, so I gladly obliged.

That last load was a biggun' Had to fit it all. Saved the rotty pieces for last, if the trailer was all solid wood, I'd have broke it.
Ended up paying 1/2 tank of gas for all this wood, oh and about 6 hours (little less than a half hour drive each way). Not bad ;) My back is a little pizzed, but it'll get over it.

    Would've been well worth $75.

Nice score, must have been a good craigslist wood day, I got this load and a lady across the street from the craigslist score came out and asked if I wanted more. She's got a bunch of oak rounds stacked too. Probably 2 more trailer loads full. I split all this already today. All red oak.

Ohhhh, trade ya oak for maple, lol! Sweet deal man. Never had that happen.

And it sure was worth $75, but with 2-3 years c/s/s, I didn't need it.

I'd actually trade you. I'm only 1.5 years ahead so the oak isn't doing me any favors. I've also realized that with a cat stove I can really extract the btus from the lesser woods like maple and pine. Being able to lower the air and have the cat burn the smoke keeps the pine or maple from going bye bye really quickly in the stove.

    Excellent!

BTW, you might want to black out the license plate number next time. Maybe a moderator can help with that if you still wish to do it.

Everybody likes a good score like that !! I don't mind the chit-wood because I keep it separate from the good wood and is burnt solely in my shop stove. Hate to burn good stuff in the shop....and I won't burn chit-wood in the house either.:handshake:

    Man I hear that!

Nice score wolverine! I'm like you. I won't pay someone to clean up their mess. Especially when there is so much free wood everywhere to be had.

Nice score! I've burned some Norway Maple, and I'd rate it a little better than red. It reminds me a lot of ash - dries fast, even in the round, and puts out about the same heat. In my experience it's a little tougher to split, but mine all came from yard trees.

That should keep you busy for a while!

Yep, that's my experience too. His CL pics showed fresh cut wood, must have been last year sometime because the ends were grey.

I separate all the junk wood when I split and save it for our outdoor fire pit. Still no garage wood stove.
