I've been asked by a fellow saw aficionado to post this Michigan GTG over here. As the title says the GTG will be the weekend of Aug the 20th. For more info see the thread over at OPE: Michigan GTG 2016 (August 20) Click here to RSVP Barcroftb - 2 Nitrodave - 1 Total: 3
Brad gave me a heads up about this site over on OPE. He asked if it would be OK if he let guys over here know about the GTG. Last year was my first year hosting one and we had a blast. It was a fair amount of work to get one set up, but by the end of the day everyone had a blast. My wife and kids had such a great time that they convinced me to host another one this year. We would love to have some guys from this site come on out. Things here are pretty laid back. All we ask is for you to come and enjoy yourselves. Plus come hungry. I'm planning on getting a bunch of chickens in a few weeks, they will get butchered the Friday before and we will throw them on the smoker while we are cutting and BS'ing. I am in Hamilton, about 5 miles South of Holland and about 40 miles south west of Grand Rapids.
I missed the Geniusfest last year but will be there this time around there are some off the books plans for an MS260/026 shootout with a bit of smack already being talked cant wait oh and if anybody wants to run a fast saw I will try to bring one Dave
Yeah, sure! I knew what ya meant HD- I seen Barcroftb's avatar on OPE.... Sporting a stogie in them (wood)pecker lips...... OOOOh Monica.......
All this talk on saw racing etc... I think I am going to see what I can do to get some cants made up. I have no idea where to even begin looking for something like that.
If you had a decent size log is someone with a chainsaw mill attending? Paging Shawn Curry . If so a cant could be milled the day of and it could be a milling demo at the same time. Two birds one stone. Or do you have a saw mill near by? A friend, neighbor, or someone local with a portable sawmill? If not these sites might help you track someone down: Find a Local Sawyer Sawmills in Michigan As far as species it doesn't much matter, but I hear definitive dave prefers his wood soft. I'm sure he will chime in with the size wood he prefers as well
I'll have to talk to Huskihl. He did mention on OPE that he had a Alaskan. Maybe I can get him to bring it with him.
Don't think I'll be making this one Brad - sorry. I'm not part of the OPE "clique", and they make it known anytime I post over there. There are a couple guys I would like to hang out with, like you and definitive dave. But it's a real long drive for me. Hopefully I'll see you again at Dex's in October though!
Say what? Western NY is a long haul out to Michigan. But if you would make the trip, you would be more than welcome over here.
This may just be a trip I can possibly make.......I'm slated to go to Maine for a weekend in August, if that isn't the same weekend as this, I may just come out!! Should have my Stihl Contra up to snuff by then too.......
That's a great plan! That way you wouldn't have to make the whole trip talking to yourself. As it stands Kenis and I are planning on making it out there. I'm not sure about walt or the rest of the gang. Eric VW seems interested but I think it sounded like it might be a stretch for him.
