Left home, half hour or so east of buffalo at 515 this morning and now sitting in Gaffney South Carolina. Drove through Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virgina and North Carolina. Needless to say I've never travelled except in New York and some of northern PA so it's quite an experience. Let me just say to my fellow hoarders that are in these states what beautiful country I'm pretty jealous:thumbs:.... So anyhow heading another 600 miles or so tommorrow to Florida to spend some time with family and in true hoarder fashion.....I brought a saw and have a tree to take down for my father in law!!!:D Pictures to follow.... Real question is what's your longest distance FHC project?!

birchtree.jpg My longest distance so far was about 400 miles to take down a tree for my brother in law.

I guess I do have a picture of the tree before I took it down. Everyone wants pictures, right?

When I first started cutting wood I drove a little over an hour each way for a trailer load of poplar logs. Didnt know any better at the time. 51 miles each way would be my longest hoard.

Until this year I never cut firewood anywhere but my own property
I'm cutting on the property next to me this year.

I regularly drive 2.5 hrs each way to my favorite cutting spot....but that's where we go target shooting and hunting as well. I try to make my hoarding trips multi-activity days.

Just about an hour each way for several loads of mulberry at a good friends. It was a good excuse for us to get together.

About 225 miles up to Bangor, to my brother's to help him take down a tree. It was quite a while ago. the wood stayed there.

Stay safe with lumberjacking, and with the hurricane not too far from you.

Welcome to the South, glad to have you! As you travel along I-85 in Gaffney, SC notice the giant water tower that has been designed and painted to be a giant peach- it's cool. Also, MasterMech lives in Greenville, SC..maybe holler at him on the way back north. What part of FL are you heading to?

I believe my longest haul was about an hour each way for that big oak last year. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

For adding to my hoard - about 20 minutes.
Now I did that 15-20 minutes each way about 3/4 cord at a time to end up with almost 7 cords.

I head up to the mountains every year for Lodge Pole pine. A little over a 100 miles one way. I cut down about 20 to 25 trees each year up there sometimes even more.
You guys and ladies that go further my hat is off to you.

For actually adding to my hoard, the farthest I'll go regularly is a woodlot about 10 miles away. There are a lot of large ash trees there, 2'-4' dbh, so I'm hoping to embark on a grand ash cutting adventure this winter.

I should be able to bring 5 or 6 cords home without too much trouble.

Well I just made 3 round trips of 80 miles, so 240 miles for my two thirds of a cord of hawthorn. But I did some other stuff on the way. Still, I judge that to be kind of nutty.

No long traveling for me. I have scrounged and purchased locally within a 10 mile radius. But I think I'm going to start having log loads dropped to supplement the firewood from my property. I think I have a one year supply just on the ground that needs to be cleaned up from the logging.

Rolled in to Lakeland Florida this afternoon around 445. Pouring rain, lightning, mid 80's and 100% humidity  no fires tonight haha!

To those of you that wished us safe travels, thank you:salute: all 1300 ish miles safe and sound and hope to run just the same back home next week. As for the tree it's trees! Just a couple little guys. I'll get some pics tommorrow as to try and tell what they even are.
