I am a medium dark like an english walnut stain on oak trim boards color person that likes a nice wood grain that is not too busy...yes I am boring! I lean towards gold trim. I will try to find a pic of a dresser I refinished to show color.
I like the ease of writing and holding reviews this has but am not sure on diameter of the hand grip.
Nice pen. I have never turned this specific pen. That is not a problem, just can't answer specifics because of that. Wood choices: #1 --------- Bocote Pen Blank - WoodTurningz #2 --------- Macassar Ebony Pen Blank - WoodTurningz #3 -------- Wenge Pen Blank - WoodTurningz #4 -------- Zebrawood Pen Blank - WoodTurningz Let me know which wood blank you prefer and I'll call Monday and get that kit ordered and try to have a completed pen for a picture by this time next week.
I forgot who we would be ordering from when I typed last night about having it done by Friday of next week. Woodturningz if they have this pen kit can get it to me by Tuesday. Otherwise from Penn State Industries it will take a week to week and a half to get my order to my home. I will keep you up to date on the whole process.
Is anyone a wood turner here? Sorry I'm late to the game here, been on the run lately. My BIL is into wood turning. Here is a couple of his creations. Top is made from Pecan I got from Eric VW . It's a twisty pen. Bottom is a Rifle pen kit. I don't know where he gets his kits, but I can find out.
As I said before not need to rush and thanks again. It is people like you coming on board that keep making this place a better place. Any time you have a question or need assistance just ask. It is amazing how many talented and caring people we have on our team!
Hello, Im new here TurboDiesel and BrianK have a hot sister so I married her 19 years ago !!! I met a few guys on here at Tims. I am a wood turner, I mostly make pens. Yes I can make a pen with any wood except pine, I am considering making some from pinecones and corn husks. I just made a pink gel click pen aprox 5/8 of an inch. If i made one any bigger the clip wouldn't fit. I also mad a revolver pen which I love since me .38 special is always on me. The other is a bolt action inside a rifle case for the pen. They also make a lever action kit and an AR15 kits. There are grenade and tank kits are twist style. Hope this helps. Stephen
Hello, Im new here, TurboDiesel and BrianK have a hot sister so I married her 19 years ago. Ive met some of you at Tims. I am a wood turner who mostly make pens. The only forbidden wood is Pine. I just made a pink click gel pen a few days ago see my pic below. I also have a revolver pen which is perfect for me since I am never without my .38 special. I used Pecan on that one. Lastly in the pic is a bolt action inside a rifle carrying case. I used butternut to make that one. The pink one is a gel and its about 5/8 inch any bigger and the clip wouldn't fit. The pink is a dyed plywood called spectra ply they use these on rifles. There are also lever action and an AR15 style that aren't twist. They have a grenade and tank pens but they are twist. I plan on making a few pens out of corn husks and pinecone in the future. No the wood isnt treated but if it is green it may warp. I often use customers wood as Tim's picture showed pecan.
Welcome aboard WoodTurnerinPA! Told my brother in law I was putting ship lap on my bedroom ceiling, and he asked if I was using knotty pine. I simply replied your sister loves my naughty wood in the bedroom. He said to never bring that up again. You and I have similar minds when talking around our spouses siblings!
Welcome to the club, Steve! Stop over at the Introduce Yourself Here thread Introduce yourself here !
I have placed your order. Will let you know when I get it and then go from there. The talented part, that will be up to you to decide when you get your pen!
Greenstick, your pen kit is in my possession. I have a tube glued in and if my phone is charged tomorrow, will get photos taken then you can follow the progress. This time next week I hope to be completed with it and it in the mail to you.
