This morning I took the tractor a couple miles to a BIL to get some stones. On the way I spotted a couple slabs that someone lost off a load and it was right beside the pavement. So, on the way back, somehow those slabs found their way right into the trailer. One oak and one ash.

    So now I guess I's a scrounger.

LOL! You Scrounger You!!  Nothing wrong with that scrounge. I think any of us would have to stop to pick up oak and ash slabs. Worse though, we might get banished from the great FHC if we knew it was there and past it by.

Hey, I was also surprised at how much wood was on those slabs. Sometimes they are mostly bark but these are good wood. They will fit nicely into our piles.

Stopping to rescue a lone hunk of wood is the right thing to do. Good on ya, Dennis!

Unless there's no utilizing the slabs as shelves or such, in the fire it must go!

    I guess I don't know the definition of a scrounger then...school me...

I have a list, no kidding, of dead, fallen, or damaged trees that I didn't get to the winter before. I go out for them the following winter plus whatever else is new. I take anything and everything as long as it's not a live tree....except boxelders, cottonwood, and sumac (TOH)...I'm even going to thin out as much spice bush as I can this winter and use the larger ones for firewood (we'll see how that burns 2018/2019). I also take what falls on the side of the road, friend's houses, etc. I'm assuming this is the habit of a scrounger...
