That's no fun! Lucky it wasn't too hung - came down without big persuasion. Cheers!

I've had that happen to me before. It looks like you made the back cut too high (same thing I did) so the notch was not able to function properly. I don't think it was really "hung up" on anything except the notch itself. The back cut should be no more than 1" above where the 2 notch cuts meet - and ideally it should be about even with them. Also, if you could have got a rope up in the top of it, it would have pulled over much easier (leverage).

Ya I have realized I really need about 200' of good rope.
Thanks for the hinge input. I guess I was thinking the higher step and thickness would give me more time to waddle away.

I'll just say there were a few scary moments there and you did a few things I would not do.

True, but CoreyB is here to tell the story, so there's that.:)
And the onscreen "quote" question about the videographer's (your wife, Corey?) intended meaning when "qualifying" the hung up tree vs. the feller.....priceless.:rofl:

Ya next time I will just drop the little white oak. I was thinking it would carry enough momentum to role off the little oak.
Thank you guys for your concern and feedback. I honestly do try and put it to use.

Main thing is you are still standing and the tree is not!

Corey I'm glad you're safe and still with us buddy. A 200 foot length of rope is a must! As well as a throw bag and throw line or masons line. This book is invaluable to those who didn't have the opportunity to learn from an old feller:

    To fell a tree

I too would have cut the living white oak first. Sometimes hindsight is in 20/20 and I'm sure you learned a thing or two.

You're a good man, getting out there and getting it done.:dex::woodsign:

Keep learning, these things can bite you. May suggest you wear chainsaw chaps?

I've had my share of hung up trees over the years, they are not fun to work with. Lots of bad things can happen, thankfully you got yours down OK, Lots of real good wood there. Enjoy!:coldfire:

Hung up trees are no biggie. They happen. It is just a matter of being prepared to deal with them that makes the difference.

Good video cory, ya all of us have hung some trees. What mag craft said is very true proper equipment makes getting them down alot easier.
