Found this on CL. Bar was hot at one point. 155psi on the compression, they let me test before I bought. Starts, idles and restarts easily. RPM maxed out at 11,600. Paid 240.00 OTD.
Someone on here said what the difference is between the blacktop and the gray top, I don't remember what it was though. Mine is in my Avatar
Nice saw at a great price . You’re gonna like it .You can turn it into an 80ish cc saw for about $200 ,and a couple of hours work .
Basically it’s just a straight swap of the 64 cc P&C for the 7910 P&C . Then if it’s the cat muffler , I’m certain that there is a thread here at FHC on how to ut the cat ,and save about 4-5 oz of weight . I got my P&C through performance outdoor . Great to deal with .
I watch a video on that. That cat needs to go away. I think I am going the 80cc route. Sounds like an easy mod.
Just going from memory ... but when you heat the muffler ,only undo three sides of the crimp ,leaving the top alone . Then slide the muffler apart . Makes it quicker to recrimp it .
I think mine needs a Makita marked bar. It got hot! I'm betting someone didn't want to pay for bar oil when they rented it. Bar has some burrs and wear channels from the chain, plus the paint is gone
The one I saw the guy uncrimped part and ground everything but the bottom flange. He welding up the ground edge. That's probably what I'd do.
The grey top is the non catalytic muffler, 6401. The black top is the 6421 catalytic muffler. I don't recall exactly when they discontinued the 6401 and started the 6421, but it may have been back in 2012 or so. Other than the muffler, and the color of the top, it's the same saw. Yes, these are a great pro saw, and at the smallest displacement of this family of saws. You can put a 73cc, a 79cc or aftermarket 85cc and maybe bigger too, and have more per to weight ratio. Muffler modding loses some weight too, and gives more power. As a 64cc saw, it's a bit on the hefty side, but it's a great saw that can be made even better.
