Hello folks New member here from south central Alaska Lurked for a while and liked what I saw so decided to jump in I am just a guy who likes running chainsaws and being out in the woods I am working slowly to convince my better half that the gas insert needs to come out of the fireplace and a woodburner needs to go in so I have a better excuse to burn gas and dull some chains In the meantime I try to keep up with the trees on my property and this summer I will be helping my son clear parts of 10 acres he bought down in Homer Alaska We are hoping to mill some wood to build a large deck for his 40 foot yurt home that is under construction He will be heating with wood so even more excuses to smell 2 stroke Anyway, greetings and I hope to be able to contribute something worthwhile from time to time Michael
Nice to meet you 3browns Great backstory and a plan in the works to go to wood burning! Now when you get a chance, maybe put up some pics of your Alaskan surroundings?
Welcome to FHC 3browns ... Glad that you finally decided to join the bestest place on the net... We all like Pictures too, just incase you haven't noticed....
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome I retired on December 31st and headed over to Hawaii a few days later to spend the winter with my wife at our condo here I head back north next week and will certainly post some pics of my surroundings I haven't seen my son's property yet but there should be some good opportunities for chainsaw action pics as well as scenic shots For now here is my house with Bear Mountain in the background (an accurate name ) and the bane of my existence: COTTONWOODS (I hate them with a passion)
I didn't see the stickied Introduce Yourself thread Sorry Mods feel free to move, delete, or modify as you see fit I'll try to pay more attention in the future Michael
^^^ this ^^^ you live in beautiful country , 3browns! Welcome to the club. I think your gonna like it here.
Of course you will have to tell the story about the Dollar PS6400 referred to in your signature, or risk getting either banned or having your head attached to a muffin.
Thanks again The only drawback to getting her to go along with this whole heating with wood plan is we haven't actually had a winter in 3 years now The midwest and northeast keep getting their @$$ kicked and we sit there in what should be the coldest part of the winter and have 30s, 40s, and lately 50s Where is a good ice age when you need one to help convince wifey Oh well Have a good one Michael
Hmmm Banned on my first day.... Would that set a record of some kind? Would there be a prize for that? The Dolly started life as a box stock 6400 and I ran it a lot with a 20" bar and then for a while with a 24" Oregon 72DPX chain on both It cut anything I needed to cut and would most likely have gone to the grave with me assuming good maintenance (I'm 60 years young) Anyhow, I am just a tree hack and certainly didn't NEED more saw, but when the hell did that ever stop a guy from wanting to push the envelope I had a nice back and forth with Randy and ended up sending the little beast in for a 7910-ectomy He popped on an OEM P/C, modded the muffler (I had previously gutted it but didn't open it up any), woods ported it, and whatever black magic he does I actually got it back just days before leaving Alaska for the winter It is sitting on my bench without a bar and chain; I had so much to do closing out my office prior to retirement and getting ready for Hawaii that I didn't even get a chance to run it I guarantee you within 6 hours of getting off the plane in Anchorage that hot puppy will be fueled up and barking I will certainly report back on how she runs Michael
Welcome Bought a riverboat from a guy on Mirror lake in the early 80s. You're in the mountain's shadow is for most of Winter. +1, Hawaii is a good place to be during Break-up Weather has been 10° above the norm, trees are budding Snow's gone, some lakes are showing liquid water
Sounds like a good choice in saw (minus that Stihl ) and locale. Can't wait to see some pics of the homestead, I have been trying to convince my wife to take a trip to Alaska, the pictures of the warm season are always beautiful.
