Have you heard anything from them after finding so much rot?

Not a word. I saw those logs in person last weekend. The pic made it look worse than it was and I made my comment based on the pic which was sent by my neighbor before I saw it myself.

I'll be heading down again this weekend. They should be done or very close by then.

Statement retraction. I lied. The cutters noticed and mentioned it. The buyer knows it's on him. He even lost out on a sweet double trunk hickory that was straight as an arrow. Cutters didn't wanna cut it as it would fall on the neighbor. I got paid for it. Not my loss.

I'm sure the loggers will scrape what dirt off the gravel they can. The rain will make the rest disappear as a lot of water runs right thru that area.

If you meant me applying gravel, no way. I've got 4 wheel drive. I share the driveway with 1 neighbor ( 6 person household) and they just tear it up by driving too fast. I had words with them once which slowed them down while I'm there, but When I'm gone, I'm told they still fly down the lane and the gravel patterns show it.

Its all over but the crying! Trails have been graded and seeded with a mixture of grass, clover, and wheat. The deer should be ultra happy. Waterbars Installed Where Needed. I may toss down some starter fertilizer too. Straw hasn't been delivered yet :(

Since they are seeded, I guess my skidding is over for now unless I make a temporary trail elsewhere.

I haven't been back to get more pics. Stay tuned for a lengthy update this weekend.

I did find this old pic to show the canopy around the shed before it was all cut.

    20170729_133142.jpg

This was taken from in front of the shed.

And looking up from the same spot...you can see why I couldn't grow grass.

Just got to property. Having a mild heart attack! I think I bit off more than I can chew. Some of this will rot before I can drag it all out.

Here's where I'm starting. Right in front of the barn.

Gonna get a few small diameter millable logs from this fuster cluck of 3 walnut tops.

Get some more pallets and stack the logs and branches off the ground. That'll give you more time before you need to worry about rot setting in.

OK, so you have 3 walnut milling logs. Is that all you have? I bet you can find a few firewood pieces after you have those set aside.

Water break. Plenty of sun now! I'm sweating badly. Good thing I brought me some portable shade. 20170818_171559.jpg

Found a nice surprise in the mess....a perfectly straight hickory.

That's just what I got from this pile. There's 130 more piles or so to dig thru.

A look at how they fell all these trees.

    Shallow notch.
    Plunge cut
    Angled cut to release trigger

A fellow I work with had his back acreage clear cut for timber- same thing...shallow notch, close to the ground....amazing that that timber cutter got such large trees to go where he wanted them to!

Edit: Not the same coworker that some of y'all know...

Had to stop. It's beer 30.

Today's progress. Doesn't look like much but it is. Once I finish my beer I'll get a pic of the wood hauled out of that pile
