Ive posted a couple teaser pics of this in other threads. Anyway here's the whole thing. I made it for one of the bartenders at the pub - the place I made the restaurant booths for. It was sort of a "saw it on pinterest" type of job. I started with some of my homemade maple: 4x6's resawed, cause that's what I had available. It all came from the same log and matched up nicely. Dewaxed shellac and wipe on poly for the finish. They want a couple of shelves to go with it now too.
Beautiful desk. It is a shame to put anything on it to cover the top up. The shelves will be a great compliment to the desk.
No biscuits - the only time I really use those is in a corner glue up. In that case it's difficult to apply much clamping force without the joint slipping, and the biscuits prevent that. But in the case of a normal edge gluing situation, I find it's better to just work quickly and get the clamps on ASAP. It only takes a few mins for the glue to begin to set and if it does the joint will not close tightly.
That is really nice. I was going to build me a nice desk out of some old oak boards that I salvaged years ago. They were rough sawn and I took them to a local college and had an instructor to run them through the planner. They came out great but they are still not in desk form. I also want to make a matching set of bedside tables. Maybe if I can get the shed in shape so I can actually use it as a work place.
