We are heading south for the Saturday PA opener this week, can't wait! I also just got a text from my Dad about the 15 birds roosting behind his place he's been watching fly up every night. Hope they are still there next Monday for our opener here! I've got some serious excitement this year and just added to it! First off I haven't had time to hunt the last few years so this is awesome! Second I'm getting to hunt (and fish Friday and Saturday this week) with my Dad and brother which hasn't happened in a while Third getting to go to our camp in PA that I haven't seen in a few years either, let alone getting to hunt the hill country Fourth I've got a new shotgun Last but not least I got us a set of these thanks to blacksmith and rustyspurs!
My hopes aren't high, but I'm going to take the day off tomorrow and see if I can't get a bird. I haven't seen one strutting in a couple weeks.
Guy at work had all kinds of action this past weekend. Took his nephew out for youth season and after missing 7 different birds finally got one. So I'm hoping they stay in the mood for at least another week.
They say numbers should be up...Not that I trust their stats.... DEC predicts 'above average' 2017 NY spring turkey hunting season
I'm hoping they are right it sure would be nice! It's been sort of quiet the last few years and I think a lot to do weather and a rising coyote population too.
I use to turkey hunt haven't really gotten into it a whole lot probably because I don't really know how to. Plus the ticks is the big thing that scares me away. I know that you can get the good tick spray can't quite remember what it's called, but the boys keep me really busy with their spring sports anyways.
Nice! He give you a decent show? I'm still not gonna hunt them this year however. Gotta drum up more work instead of taking days off unfortunately.
Called 4 times and he came in at full strut 25 yards away. I was out of the truck and back in 15 minutes.
In the hills of PA trying to roost a bird as we speak saw some nice ones poking around the field earlier today so they are hear somewhere
Finally connected today on a double with my buddy. Had a rough morning on stateland and went to a private land spot we have. Spooked the birds when we got there but made a big loop around them and called them in.
Better than being at work that's for sure! Had a bunch of action this morning early but no shots. Oh well still having fun!
I was just about to head out to roost a couple for the morning opener here aaaaaand a tstorm just rolled in have to wait a and see if it passes
He's not very big but at 15 feet, a new gun to try out and thunderstorms coming I couldn't resist. Of course he flopped into the water in a little ditch in the field so he's a little rough
Didn't clean up too bad, had to wash and dry it after all it rained hard yesterday and he flopped in a mud and water filled furrow. The best part is in the freezer, I'm thinking some maple, cherry and apple smoking wood will do the trick any suggestions?
