Six of mine are solid spruce, one is cedar, one is maple and the rest are laminate. I have Elixir on the Martin right now. They've been on there since August. I have a set of Martin PB I'm going to try when I change them.
Hey UncleJoe how about a few pictures of those. I have a couple of Taylors a Gretch, and Ibanez. I bought the Ibanez used for a hundred bucks and it sounds better then the Gretch. I am fairly new to playing accoustics and have played mostly electric. I have come across some guys that get together and do a little jamming and all they use is accoustic guitars. It has been fun.
A few of them are on the first page of this thread. I need to organize my pics to make it easier to get to them. When I do I'll post some of the ones that aren't already up. I'm going to look at a Gibson J40 on Wednesday. The guy that has it collects old chainsaws so I'm taking a 70's Stihl 041 to see if he wants to trade.
That is pretty cool. I went back to page one and checked out the Guitars. Nice guitars. Some collectables. The only thing I have that is really collectable is the Gibson SG I bought new in 73. I had a nice Old Fender Strat also but I gave it to a good friend as a gift.
these are my go-to right now. http://www.amazon.com/Ernie-Ball-2146-Earthwood-Acoustic/dp/B0002DUQ04/ref=zg_bs_11967851_5 last long, good price, good tone
I have never used the Ernie Ball on my accoustic guitars but that is all I used on my electrics. The Ernie Ball strings seemed like they held up better to the note bending. Especially the high strings.
As promised, here's a few more. The Martin is on page 9 of this thread so I won't post it again On the left is an Eastman I picked up last winter for $200. Solid Spruce top with sepele back sides. On the right is an Alvarez 50th anniversary Grateful Dead commemorative. Silk screened Cedar top with Mahogany B&S. They sell for $400 new but I wasn't willing to pay that for one. I found one on CL this past summer for $225 and grabbed it. Here is an Epiphone 12 string from the 70's. Spruce top with Rosewood B&S. I have 2 0f these. A '71 Fender I found at the flea market last summer. Spruce top with Mahogany B&S. Early 70's Epiphone 6 string. Spruce top. Rosewood B&S. Here's the SG that never gets played. And then I have a mandolin that doesn't get much use right now either. I also have a classical guitar but don't recall the brand. My sister has had it for around 15 years.
Nice collection of instruments. What year is your SG? The one I have is almost identical. The Grateful dead is pretty cool. Did not know they made a guitar like that.
Thanks. The SG is a 2011. Alvarez worked with Bob Weir and came up with 2 styles. They came out in April of this year.
A new cover song we tried on Sunday. It's only the second time we played it so there was no arrangement. We're just wingin it. I got lost at one point but caught up eventually
Many, many years ago I heard this song on a college radio station. At the time I wasn't a very big fan of Queen but this song grabbed hold of me and never let go. When I started learning to play guitar I told myself I would learn it someday. 35 years later I finally put my mind to it and over the winter figured it all out. Still needs polished up a bit but I can now add it to my repertoire. Queen 39
I'm impressed! There aren't that many people that are familiar with the song let alone what it's about. I think it was the B side of "You're My Best Friend" but don't quote me on it.
My favourite band. Maybe if Brian would have locked himself in the cupboard it could have been the single. That's how Roger got I'm in Love with My Car on the flip side of Rhapsody-- and made millions in the process.
Was in Upstate NY last weekend at a guitar forum get GTG. A few of us got together to do this song as a special treat for one of the members that couldn't make it. Father and daughter seated in the front doing lead vocals. Near the end she does her best Axl Rose (AC/DC) impression. Being outside the sound quality leaves a bit to be desired but we all had a blast. And here I am screwing up an old Marty Robbins tune.
My turn to host one of these musical get togethers. The weekend of October 1st; 40 miles NW of Harrisburg, Pa. If anyone is interested in coming by, PM me for more info.
