    Hello
Because the latch moves from left to right and right to left, I have found the hopper lid latches get loose and in many cases can sometimes easily let air into the hopper. The small OEM nut and star lock washer just do not seem to be hefty enough to hold it tight.
I have found that this heavy duty flanged and serated nut and much stronger C type lock washer just holds the latch in place and never gets loose!
    Anyone else have this issue???

Pic 3 - shows OEM star lock washer and OEM nut at bottom of pic and replacement Stainless Steel heavy duty C lock washer and flanged serated nut in top of pic. :)
Also shows new SS c lock washer and serated flanged nut installed in stove under hopper lid. :)

Try wiggling the hopper lid up and down, if there is any movement the problem is starting up. :)

How about those sticky skanky pieces of gasket under the auger motors! Touching that mess just gives me the willies! So What about taking the auger stop plates out and cleaning them up with a good scraping and scrubbing! Then a fresh coat of high temp Satin Black stove paint. Using clear high temp silicone RTV gluing high temp silicone strips on the stop plates for longer lasting and much neater look!

I wouldn't do too much wiggling If I were you. All four of these guys are former owners of englander stoves and look what happened to them. Just awful.

I had trouble with the latches. one of them the nut came off at one point. never found it. had to order a new latch. i find they work pretty good when i put on a new hopper gasket. at least for a while.

regarding the auger motors - very important to have some sort of soft piece of gasket under them. I didnt know it was important and a few years ago my auger stopped running. when i took off the motor, i found that over the years it had banged a hole in itself. the auger motor rest plate is way harder than its gear housing.
