Who makes a 20" bar .325 chain for a MS 250 other than Cannon or some pricey manufacturer? I guess auto correct changed my title lol.
http://www.baileysonline.com/shop.axd/BarSelector just follow the steps , 20 inches is a lot on that but they have a couple choices the factory ms270 and 290 bars should work also .325 63ga but will be more expensive.
A choice of with, or without a loop of chain. On a 325 050 narrow kerf, which would take less power to move. An MS250 takes a 3005(Oregon A074), and a 270 and 290 take a 3003(Oregon D025).
Stihl does not make 3005 mount bars in anything longer than 18"/68DL (.325") or 18"/61DL(3/8"P). The 3003 mount bars from the MS260/270/280/290 will not fit on a 250. 94BULLITT your best bet is Baileys but if I was going 20" on a 250, I'd want it in 3/8"P for sure. Six pin spurs are also available in Picco to give it some grunt. Long-reach limber?
Not if it's actually 18" or so and running 3/8"LP chain. Remember that the smaller mount bars are listed with lengths that are "optimistic". Hold an 18" 250 up to a 16" 260 and see that the bar length is nearly identical. 250s are grunty 'lil bastards especially if the mufflers are gutted. More snot than a Poulan Pro 4620 ever had.
Thanks for the replies. I checked the Baileys bar selector and they did not have one for a MS250 but they had one listed for an 025 It was .325NK would that bar accept regular .325 chain? My great uncle has a MS 250 with easy start that he wants to put a 20'' bar on. He can't start most saws because his shoulder is messed up. The doctor does not even want him running a saw. I think a 20'' bar would be a little big for a 250. The guy at the saw shop told him you couldn't get a 20'' bar for it. I showed him a cannon bar for it that was 3/8LP but he acted like he did not want to change the clutch drum. Then after I posted the thread he got to talking a about a Husqvarna because the guy at the saw shop told him they start easier than a Stihl. He is going to look at Huskies tomorrow at a dealer that has 6 or 8 saws in stock and I bet they will have one that fits hands perfectly I told him my MS 261 cranked very easily but he did not want to put $550 into a saw.
Here is a quick pic of 18 Stihl bar on my 025. It's only got 17" of usable bar. 3/8 Picco by the way.
I think a 261 costs more than that? Maybe not? Yea I guess that is close to right. I dont think husky starts easier??
94BULLITT if he has a "bum" shoulder, I would recommend a looksee at a Dolmar 5105 with easy start. Of course it would be dependent on Dealer support in your area.
can you explain what you mean by mount ? I saw a farm boss bar on a 025 at a flea market , did not look to close or handle it ,the price was high is about all i recall were the bars different back then ? or did someone slap something together to sell ? I see you have a 261 what do you have on it for a bar and chain ? i have been very disappointed in my 261 to the point i hardlly use it ,if i recall you worked for a dealer so i value your advise.
The newer 251 are being labeled "Wood Boss", and should be the right mount for an 025 also - is that what it was? The "mount" has to do with where the bar studs are located, what size they are, location of the adjustment groove, etc. The Stihl 3005 mount is on smaller chainsaws 250-under, 3003 on most Pro saws 260-660, and 3002 on the biggest saws 084-880. Some of the big older stihls have another mount. I run .325 chain and an 18" bar on my 261. It cuts great but it doesn't see as much use as my 362. 3/8 chain might be a little much, even with the extra bananas, IMO.
I may have what you are looking for 94BULLITT . I picked up a NOS 20" .325 .050" GB Workman Pro-Top bar cheap a few months ago thinking to use it on a 260 but no good for that as mentioned above and its a little big for my 170. PM me your address and I'll stick it in the mail.
The guy at the saw shop told him all the new Stihls "kick" when you start them. Thanks, that is a very generous offer. After thinking about it overnight I think the best thing for me to do is not get him an 20" bar. He reall yhas then itch for a Husky. He would probably complain that it did not have enough power, did not oil enough, or was too nose heavy. If you still want to get rid of the bar let me know what you want for it and I'll add it to my collection. Yes That would be a good option for him. I think he got bit by the Husqvarna bug. I wouldn't be surprised if he did not already buy one.
There is an actual Husqvarna bug? Hmm. Yes, I see what you mean. I believe I have been bitten. Apparently there is also a Poulan, Dolmar, and Vintage saw bug as well. Not to mention a Guide Bar, and full reel of chain bug........LOL! Even with 197# at 4700' the Easy Start still works........praise the Lord........LOL!
I've never seen a farm boss bar that fits a 250 (doesn't mean it doesn't exist tho!) so I'd for sure suspect something was modified to fit or slapped together. Regarding the 261, I was very close to returning mine. The first two tanks were very disappointing. Then it started to come alive. By the time I had a gallon or so of fuel through it, I was much happier. I started out running the stock .325" 16" setup I bought it with. I switched it to a 3/8"LP setup (16") and it picked up quite a bit of pep. I've run a few different combos on it and I think I may re-try them all now that it's ported. Just have to wait for work to let up on me a 'lil so I can get to cutting again.
I don't think there is a cure once you are bit by the bug. How does the easy start work on that saw? Does it goober the timing?
