http://www.wilx.com/news/headlines/...-Chainsaw-Thefts-253485361.html?device=tablet A year-long investigation into the theft of $10,000 worth of chainsaws in a single day has resulted in the arrests of two people. Ingham County deputies tell wilx.com Ali Ivanov and Gaci Juric were arrested last month in the Chicago area. They believe Ivanov and Juric were part of a group of three people dressed as gypsies who stole the chainsaws from ten stores in Mid-Michigan on March 18, 2013. Stores in Williamston, Okemos, Bath, Holt, Grand Ledge, Charlotte, Portland and Caledonia were hit one after another. The thieves hid the chainsaws under dresses to get them out of the stores. Investigators say they sold them on Craigslist in the Chicago area. Ivanov and Juric are charged with fraud and racketeering. Hahahaha!
I grew up in Bath not from from where the outdoor power place sits today and the owner is a great guy. I'm glad they caught the thieves! It's hard for a small business to stomach losses like that.
You're right. Small businesses have more than enough things to keep track of without having to deal with their inventory being stolen.
Ive got to ask... How the heck does someone hide a chainsaw under their dress? Doesn't a dude walking into a saw shop dressed up as a "gypsy" complete with a dress on not attract "just a little" attention?
The Gypsies alias' was John Holmes and Lexington Steel?????? (ps I did not know the names of 2 male porn stars off the top of my head, I had to google)
craigslist might as well be the hugest theft tool the police have. The police think like the criminal but the criminals forget to think like the police.
Glad they got the butt heads caught. Doing things the honest and right way.... Will get a person farther in this life.
Would have taken them YEARS to steal 10k of Husqy saws one at a time under a dress. Probably could have done 2-3 at a time though... all that plastic is pretty light weight.
I think that was the same group that tried to steal some in Woodbury by me. They actually had bolt cutters to cut the cables on the saws on display. I think three of them came in and while 2 were keeping the guy at the counter busy the other one was trying to cut the cables when one of the owners came out of the bathroom next to the display they ran off. If I remember right I think their car went in a ditch not to far away, the cops were called and a canine team came in but I never heard any more. Gary
