I saw on the news yesterday, that Price Chopper is going to have a meat sell tomorrow for President Day... for $.99 / pound too... so I might stop after work to check them out...
Our local Wegmans usually has shoulders for .99 to 1.29 all winter. Once the nicer weather hits and people are buying them more they are 1.49-1.69, have never seen them over that though. If I'm smoking for a large group I'll usually go to restaurant depot, shoulders are pretty consistent at .99 there. It's not a huge savings but it's more of an excuse to go to the depot, that store rocks! Good thing I don't have a chest freezer or I'd spend a lot more whenever I went there.
I picked up a 10.5# shoulder for .88/lb last week at my local super market. I ground it all up and vac-sealed 7# of ground pork. Made some apple mustard pork burgers today for dinner.
I'm lucky enough to have two large chest freezers. At $1.00/# I would buy as much as I had room for and/ or they would sell me. Heck, at that price, it is cheaper than our standard dog food. Whatever we can't eat would go to the dogs. I would drive 1-2 hours for that price, no questions asked. FWIW, we're buy chicken quarters in bulk at $1.49 /# for the dogs and think we are doing well.
$1.79 here. They had boneless half loins for $1.29 last week though. I have almost fifteen pounds of back bacon curing right now
I miss Kroger too. However, about 10 yrs ago we got a place called Karns. They are very good. We stock up on 40# boxes of chicken quarters @ $0.59/#. They also had some great lamb for great providing the week after the PA Farm Show.
Round here they are now dabbling in making "super kroger" stores. They offer food obviously plus clothes and other home goods like a wally. Kroger is also now offering curbside pickup with online ordering, and starting next week.....even delivery! They are trying hard to take a bite outta wallys and Meijers marketshare by offering stuff nobody else does. These young kids nowadays no longer have to even leave mommy's basement to get food!
