Just started getting interested in axes for processing fire pit wood . So far I have a Collins Carpenter hatchet , an old all purpose axe from my father and 2 Fiskars chopping axes which I got instead of the X25 Fiskars splitting axe but they only charged me $ 31 for both so I just kept them . Anyway my research has pointed to these two axes / Wetterlings 20 " large hunters or Gransfors small forest axe which is a little pricey and sometimes hard to get . Anyone use either and what's your opinion on the two ? Thank you in advance.

Another to look at is the Husqvarna multi purpose axe. Made by Hults bruks . Very comparable especially at the price.

Hultafors , they own Hults Bruks and make some of the Husqvarna , Granfors Bruks owns Wetterlings , Mueller from Austria , Council from USA , Ochsenkopf and Helko from Germany to start and then there's all the quality vintage axes that are out there .
So many choices out there that it's hard to hint at what to get .

I think it's going to be the Wetterlings Large Hunters axe for $ 120. if I get a good one the qaulity should be very high.

Right where I need to be.
Have you considered buying an old used axe? I was given a very nice Plumb double bit from the mid 1920s that was bought for less than $10 at a yard sale. The old steel, if rusty and ugly can be had for cheap usually. As long as its not cracked or the poll isn't mushroomed it can be made serviceable again with a little effort.

I will keep my eye out. Here
are the two I plan on reconditioning in the future. A Collins Carpenter hatchet and this axe which has a stamp on the head but don't know who the maker is .
