Hmmmmm. Went to clean my pipe and upon baffle removal, I was greeted with this ugliness. It's never been over fired, so I don't know what happened. Supposedly the baffle carries a lifetime warranty. Should I burn this thing, or contact pe? Anyone else have this happen?
I doubt it would harm it with burning but I'd definitely replace it. Perhaps Mike is right though about calling the dealer first.
Dealer contacted and pics sent. Awaiting response from pe rep now. I also got more creosote than ever before from the cleaning. Maybe it is related to the warped baffle?
I'll bet that's it right there......I talked to a fellow at church last year that told me he likes his wood a little green so it doesn't burn up so fast. Since we were at church I thought the best thing to do was just change the subject.....
Had the same thing happen on the T5 bocefus and a buddy at work made me a thicker baffle. Not sure of the gauge? but it hasn't warped in 2 years. [/QUOTE]
I would think that you could take a torch; and heat that bad boy up, and then take a BFH and hammer that sucker back into shape. Just saying.
Gosh , considering the price of PE stoves...ya'd think a baffle would NEVER do that. Disappointing to me.
Don't be disappointed yet. I ran my T5 last year and it was great. Let's see what PE and/or the dealer does first before passing judgement.
PE should replace the baffle free of charge, I believe they are warranted for life or that is what I was told when I bought my Summit Classic..
My Baffle has warped a bit but it is an indent on the bottom side. I dont know if I knocked it with a split while reloading or what but I would think since I never do hot reloads thats unlikely. My performance hasnt been affected and the baffle sits properly on its supports.
PE does not have the best record for some of the problems with their stoves, they might tell you you over fired it no matter how much proof you have other wise.
Update: PE rep said the baffle is still fine to use, but looked like it was over fired from the red rust. That's steaming Bravo sierra. It's never been above 700, and very rarely over 600. He did say that he wants to see it at the end of this burning season so all hopes of a new baffle aren't lost.
I don't think that red is rust! it's the metal flaking due to high temps.. all steel does this at x temps.. I also don't think you over fired the stove.. don't know if your reading temps with IR or stove magnet.. but 500 to 600 STT magnet seems to be a good range for me... there a fire in there! we are doing it correctly with dry wood! this is where many stove companies try to blame consumer.. but they are making stoves for x price and not using best materials!
No, I would not stop here and just use it. Keep pressing for a new baffle now. It took me three months to get Dorman to send a replacement for their UIM Plenum. I sent photos showing them where you can see the gasket and they still wanted to drag it out.
I would suggest that he needs to see it right now, in-person, and that you will be happy to send it to him as soon as he gives you the return postage, and that he needs to send you a new one while he "examines" your old one.
