On paper, dogwood looks like the perfect firewood -- very dense, and a green moisture content so low it's practically ready to burn right away. Too bad it's slow-growing and (I'm told) hard to split.

Wasn't really that hard to split. I will tell you what was hard to split was some sycamore I had gotten last week. That was the nastiest, stringyest , ignorant damm wood I have ever wanted to deal with and will never ever take any again. Take it from me man, leave it well enough alone !

I hope 'the rest' included letting him know he could drop more wood for you.

It looks like those double blade setups on the Honda's would do a good job I don't like the idea of no side discharge though.
Sometimes I run over sticks and crap, that I don't see, I don't know if I want them flying out the back at me

Dogwood is very hard. It makes great wooden mallet heads and gluts (a large wooden wedge used when splitting logs into quarters.) If you know any woodworkers you can make some friends and a little cash with that stuff.

Will, like many others you learned the hard way about sycamore. Nasty stuff it can be. That is why it is best to cut when still young and small so it doesn't have to be split.

Now let us hope there aren't a bunch of thorns on that locust.

He said it's Black Locust . I dealt with it before and saw some small thorns on the branches etc. but nothing like like ones on wild honey locust. I think I found a decent
scrounge supply . He said I'd wanna cry if I had a clue of all the trips he's been to the dump with all the hardwoods . He doesn't have the property resources otherwise
he'd process and sell it himself.BTW that last score yielded about a half a cord after I split and stacked it. Like money in the bank !

That dogwood is massive, never seen a trunk that thick on one.
