I was looking at craigslist the other morning and I ran across an ad for 12 cords of firewood. As soon as I saw the first picture I called the guy and went straight over to check it out. This stuff was primo, the best wood I have seen. It's just about all Red Oak with just a bit of Hickory mixed in. The stack was 6.5' high by 12' wide by 20' long and all under a farmers wood shed with stingers keeping it a couple inches off the ground. Boys this was like finding the Holy Grail of Firewood. The man got a heat pump 4 years ago and didn't want anything to do with firewood anymore. The wood had been drying for 4 years some more he claimed. I split a couple pieces and checked them with a moisture meter, readings were 11%. The meter is pretty accurate, I use it all the time and see plenty of 40% stuff too. I burned some last night and the heat it put out was amazing, loaded my stove at 11pm and it was still burning at 7am this morning not just coals either. OK have a look at the pictures below (But I warn you, put a bib on to contain the drool) !!! LOL
I scored 5 cord of Oak under similar circumstances last year at a price I'm embarrassed to share. Even at full price, if I always had access to it I'm not sure I'd process my own. Nice score.
Well You know how rare it is to find wood this good this time of the year . Take it all & sell your stuff that isn't as dry
Oh yes Dave, I bought it all (he wouldn't split it up anyway) and then I asked him if he knew where I could buy more!! I found two cords last year like this. I am on the lookout for firewood every day, in the round, already split, down trees, etc.
It's Gone, heck it was gone in two weeks. Got 12 cords out of there. Got a line on eight more cords, going to bust open some splits and check MC tonight.
