I've been splitting like a mad man, so forum time after dusk has been limited for me, but like fine wine, my responses need time Soooooo, did she want sleep 'cos she had....... a headache Sorry Dave, couldn't resist.
Was up in the U.P. last week working on the hunting cabin. The guys had a fire going on Monday night.
Yep, almost worse today. After 4 small loads into the shed, I quit for the day. Lots of water and a couple breaks in the house.
Last trip out I told my wife I was going back out for one more try at melting. Didn't work. She went out to feed the chickens and was only gone for a few minutes. She was soaked with sweat when she walked back in. Sauna is a good description.....sauna in hellz would be a gooder one. We'll be wearin' sweatshirts pretty soon.
But Eric, every time I've been to your beautiful state, it has been extremely humid and most days it rained. Actually, it poured!
We are a sneaky bunch...... We have had family coming up to the U.P. for hunting when they were still running ferries - before the Mackinaw Bridge was built. They finally built their own cabin in 1985. It is in Sagola, between Iron Mountain and Crystal Falls. I also have native yoopers that live in Negaunee (this is why the border guards let us in ) I have been hunting there 20 years. I will need to look at the map or start a thread to find a hoarder willing to sell us a face cord or two of wood. Our supplier is kind of expensive and last year the wood was sub-par. Which was not very good for us since it was so cold.
I almost feel bad that youns beat me to having the 1st fire of the season, almost. Typical is season changing storms rolling thru now. A weather mix then hopefully some dry cool weeks, Then winter hits in about 6 weeks.
I figure we've got about 10 days to 2 weeks before we're having fairly regular fires either in the morning or evening. After that it's both, then the floodgates open.
Ugh! A bit jealous here. High 80's here for next 5 days; too hot for me to cut wood. Enjoy burning for the rest of us until we get our turn.
It hit the lower 30's this morning, just above a frost. We have our house pulled apart right now, and are lacking insulation and drywall on the South wall, plus lots of air leaks, so it got coldish in the house. Greg
