Good gosh man how are you getting a 30" log up there? If you have a tractor with a grapple or something your using to lift it why not just cut it in the bucket? I can't even pick up a 30" round let alone a log with like 4 of them in it!!!
Not sure about 30"! It's pretty strong though. Can't say for sure how much it would take, but I haven't broken it yet! This was close to 18" black locust, and that's about all I could manage to lift onto it. I've probably had more weight on it, when it's loaded up with smaller diameter stuff. This was black locust too.
By the time I took this pic, I cut a few feet off. It will definitely hold some weight. More than I care to lift by myself.
Since Shawn threatened to drive out here to put this together for me I decided to take some free time to finally assemble my saw buck. Thank you Shawn it is awesome and I can not wait to put it to use.
Very nice! That'll sure save your back with the 6" logs (bigger if you can lift em) and bundles of the smaller stuff...
I dont really like small stuff it takes forever to cut it and it does not seem to hold heat and fires well and burns up fast. My time is better suited on big stuff. That said if I know a small tree over or see a small one I will cut it up as I do with the tops down to like 2"s but I dont seek small stuff out like I once did. Too much work for little return
I just kinda copied Shawns with some free99$ cedar and whatnot. Sprayed it as I've been known to lose this also out in the woods.
Nice, but ....., that board in the middle is going to get sawed up. Need two on the base sides (I see them both on yours). Even built without that top board, my side supports would take an occasional hit. Looked like a beaver had been at it. I would fill mine up with slab wood, then cut. A few years back, I could buy a bundle of slabs for $15 at one of the local saw mills. Now they are $60 when you can find them. A bundle is all my pickup could carry.
If you are doing another run, I will take one. If you are not doing another run and don't mind making one, I will still take one. If you want to wait until you get a few more orders I am ok with that too.
DexterDay ... Your pops has this look Ok, minus the "hand slap" but you know what I'm sayin'! From the GTG in May, I will say you done your dad proud!
