I just threw in the first new bag of FSUs. Can I tell you something? These pellets are NOT the same as the FSUs I picked up in October. Completely different size, color, and smell. These pellets are tiny, pea size - maybe 1/4" to 3/8" max. They are much darker than the October batch, and they smell a HECK of a lot better, strong smell of softwood (pine). The batch from October smelled like there was ingredients in it that ought not to have been burned. Let's hope this new batch burns as good as they smell. For crying out loud, is there ANY consistency in these products?!?! Do they just pick the "mill of the week" to source product from or what?! Cripes!
Confirmed, the burn and ash from the new batch of FSUs is night and day different than the October batch. The ash is black, fluffy, and "normal" (not hard as a rock). So now I understand what you guys mean when you speak highly of FSUs! Here is a pic of the burn pot after one night burning. Not too shabby at all. Decent heat, but they don't burn as hot as the TSC Energex I picked up a few days back. The FSUs do produce less ash though. So, if anyone is interested in FSUs for next fall, the batch in bags labeled 01-15 appears to be decent.
That looks just like my burn pot ash. It's disturbing that there is such a variance in pellet quality.I bought 5 tons of FSU and was happy. Not the best pellet but good for the price I paid.I'm cheap and it will be hard for me to fork over $300.00+ a ton for pellets when oil is so cheap.Looks like a warm week ahead so I may be done for the season.Still have about 20 bags left.Time to clean the chimney and summerize the stove.I will check in every day because you guys and gals(Wildwest) crack me up.
I am only a bag in, so it is hard to judge bit there was very little ash this morning when I gave it a quick vacuum before restarting. Burn pot was clean as well.
I have a feeling my local TSC is going to be putting on a pellet sale soon. I stopped in there tonight to take a look around. They have so much inventory, it is stopping them finding free space to store the spring stuff. Every time I go down there, the pellets have been moved around and re-arranged into different areas, and as of today, there was so little space, they had only narrow little aisles carved out throughout so the little forklift could just barely squeeze around all the little areas. I don't see them moving this inventory, so I'm thinking in May maybe they will sell a bunch of it off at sale prices just to get it out of the way. I will keep an eye out and let you guys know so anyone who lives around here can benefit it if they feel like it.
Lucky me I happen to live near you. I cleared a little spot in my yard where I can put three tons of I am so inclined. The pallets will need to be tarped well so they don't get wet but shouldn't be an issue.
Well, had to stop at HD today, and look at what I saw. Approx. 175 tons of Chow. Also stopped at Lowes. They have the previously reported GS, nasty North Americans, and their recent delivery of Greene Team......total there was probably 50 tons. It would seem there isn't any shortage around here for the time being......get 'em while their hot! LOL.
I think I would pass on this one Is that stain from the pellets or is it just dumb luck placement My money is on rain and the big hole in the side
Pretty sure you're right. The delivery date was spray painted on the sides, and that batch had been there about a week longer than the big stack nearer the building.
Yeah, that dwarfs what I saw, but that was the most I'd ever seen at one shot at either one of the local big box stores here.
